1987: IDP’s first annual workshop
In 1987 IDP organised a workshop with the theme Overseas
students: new approaches and practices. The attendance was 95
delegates. The purpose was to bring together those parties involved
in the early marketing of Australian education to international
students.
The meeting provided the first real opportunity for individuals,
institutions, government departments and the private sector to
discuss their often widely divergent interests and ideas. It was a
very effective forum for the many different views about overseas
students.
AIEC
This small but influential meeting was the genesis of the annual
conference known as the Australian International Education
Conference (AIEC). The AIEC has since grown into the largest
international education conference in the Asia-Pacific region and
one of the preeminent international education conferences in the
world.
Since 2008, the AIEC has been co-hosted by IDP and the
International Education Association of Australia. IEAA is the
professional association for people working in the international
education industry.
25 years
Over the past 25 years the conference has grown into a major
international event, but it stays true to its original concept. It
remains a very effective forum for the industry to highlight key
developments and it still provides the opportunity for individuals
to get together and discuss their interests and ideas.
