IDP is awarded management of the Australian Partnership Scholarships
Released 8 September 2005
SYDNEY, NSW (8 September 2005) – IDP Education
Australia has been awarded a $76 million dollar management contract
for the Australian Government’s Australian Partnership Scholarships
Program which will provide 600 new scholarships for Indonesians to
study in Australia over the next four years.
The Australian Partnership Scholarships Program is an initiative
of the Australia Indonesia Partnership for Reconstruction and
Development (AIPRD) announced following the Boxing Day tsunami.
Under the program, scholarships will be available for
post-graduate study in Australia in the areas of economic
governance, public sector management and education. These fields
have been identified by the Australian and Indonesian governments
as essential to Indonesia’s development.
Applicants from across Indonesia are eligible to apply for an
Australian Partnership Scholarship for study at any Australian
university.
IDP’s Chief Executive Mr Anthony Pollock said IDP is delighted
to be awarded the management of such an important initiative. "It
demonstrates the Australian Government’s confidence in working with
us and is a positive endorsement of IDP’s performance," Mr Pollock
said.
"We have a long history of successfully working together with
AusAID to manage major Australian Government programs," he added.
"This new program is an extension of the Indonesia Australia
Development Scholarships Program, which IDP has been managing for
the past six years."
IDP’s responsibilities under the program
IDP is responsible for promoting the scholarships, managing the
application process in Indonesia and convening an independent team
of Indonesians and Australians to select suitable awardees.
Awardees undertake English language training in Indonesia before
coming to study in Australia.
Unlike the Development Scholarships Program, APS applicants may
seek placement in any Australian university.
“IDP will work in partnership with the universities to ensure
all aspects of student life in Australia are satisfactorily managed
– including payment of fortnightly living allowance, overseas
student health cover, facilitation of a scholar’s family entry into
Australia and arrangement of any necessary course variations,” said
Ms Robyn Stokes, IDP’s Head of Development Services and APS Program
Coordinator.
“IDP is also responsible for facilitating the re-entry of a
number of the scholars to their home organisation in Indonesia in
such a way that the organisation benefits from the knowledge and
skills learnt in Australia,” Ms Stokes added.
IDP is managing the Australian Partnerships Scholarships Program
through an APS Project Office in Jakarta and through its Canberra
office in Australia.
