IDP PROVIDES FUNDING FOR RESEARCH DATABASE IN INTERNATIONAL
EDUCATION
A global database widely used by researchers
in international education will have a new lease of life following
a decision by IDP Education Pty Ltd to provide sponsorship
support.
IDP will provide the Australian Council for
Educational Research (ACER) with funding to maintain the Database
of Research in International Education and continue to populate it
with new material. As a result, this searchable database will
continue to be available to researchers as a tool to help them
locate books, articles, conference papers and reports on
international education which are published both in Australia and
overseas.
The searchable web database currently contains
details of 7,677 pieces of research published from 1990 onwards.
The database was established and developed by ACER with funding
from Australian Education International.
IDP Education has agreed with ACER to take
over the funding of the database, which will continue to be
publicly available at no cost. As part of the agreement access to
the database has moved from the AEI website to the IDP website,
where it is found at www.idp.com/researchdatabase
ACER’s Cunningham Library will continue its
role of updating the database with new material.
The Chief Executive of IDP Education, Tony
Pollock, said that IDP’s sponsorship of the database was part of
the company’s commitment to supporting research in international
education.
“As an international education company which
operates globally, IDP is delighted to be able to offer this tool
on its website for use by researchers, educational institutions and
other participants in the international education industry around
the world,” Mr Pollock said.
“Our sponsorship of the database
complements IDP’s role as the founder and co-host of the annual
Australian International Education Conference, which is the major
forum in the Asia-Pacific region for presenting research in
international education.
“I look forward to working with ACER to
develop the database. High quality research is critical to the
international education industry and, with IDP’s support, the
database will continue to play a key role in disseminating
research outcomes.
“I also wish to acknowledge the long
period of support for the database from Australian Education
International which led to it becoming the valuable resource it is
today.”
ACER’s chief executive, Professor Geoff
Masters, welcomed IDP Education’s sponsorship of the Database of
Research in International Education.
“The database has provided a valuable service
to the international education community in Australia and overseas
and now, with the support of IDP Education and it’s valuable
contacts in this area of education, we look forward to the
further growth of the service,” he said.
Professor Masters also thanked Australian
Education International for its vision in creating the database and
for providing financial support for the initial 5 years.
