CamTESOL
IDP initiated the annual CamTESOL conference in 2005. It is
the premier TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
conference in South-East Asia and on the international circuit for
key TESOL professionals. The conference attracts over 1,300
participants from 30 countries, with 300 papers and workshops
delivered each year. There is also a popular poster
session.
CamTESOL maintains both formal and informal links with other key
associations and peak bodies, including TESOL
JALT English Australia and
NEAS.
The conference has a focus on practical issues for classroom
teachers, but is also academically orientated, with an
international peer-reviewed publication arising, known as Language
Education in Asia.
The conference has its own website and publication, the Language Education
in Asia journal series.
Components of the broader conference program include
pre-conference educational site visits. The conference is
well-known, with its Regional ELT Leadership Forum attracting
leaders and managers from around Asia, the Middle East, North
America and Australia. The Regional ELT Leadership Forum
alternates each year with a QA Forum, conducted in partnership with
NEAS.
Because of the high number of research-based presentations, there
is also an annual ELT Research Forum, which acts as a medium for
the presentation of doctoral theses and regional research-based
presentations. Various sponsors of CamTESOL (notably IELTS)
support regional ELT research through small grants.
