IDP – a founding partner in the IELTS English language test

IDP Education collaborated with the British Council and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations in the late 1980s in the development of a fair and reliable international test of English language proficiency for international education and migration.

Launched in 1989, IELTS (International English Language Testing System) has become the world’s premier English language proficiency test. It has had a positive impact on the life opportunities of millions of candidates who have taken the test in the past two decades.

IELTS continues, year after year, to be the preferred choice of both candidates and test-recognising organisations that seek proof of a candidate’s English language skills. As a result, in 2010 around 1.5 million people sat an IELTS test in 133 countries.
