Focus on ethics
The School of Medicine at Notre Dame emphasises the importance of ethical practice and personal character through both the Core Curriculum and workplace learning opportunities.
Having experienced firsthand the reality of health inequity in the world, Emmanuel said he has been able to pursue his passion for refugee health, rural medicine and Indigenous wellbeing.
“Doctors have a role to play in helping people that is not just about the medicine. Doctors have that privilege that people can listen to them. It is important to use that privilege in ways other than just medicine; like advocacy,” Emmanuel said.
Meaningful professional learning
Few things will prepare future health professionals for the workforce than plenty of hands-on clinical experience. At Notre Dame, Medicine students participate in a structured and supervised program of workshops, rural clinical site visits and hospital and community placements during their degree. As a result, students develop a comprehensive understanding of the practice and importance of Medicine. Notre Dame’s Doctor of Medicine is fully accredited by the AMC.
