There's plenty to do and see at the Glenelg Beach, especially in the summer months. Adelaide is famous for its unforgettable sunsets, making it a great spot for a typical Aussie fish and chips takeaway dinner and a relaxing evening.
During the day, the beach is bustling with people, interesting cafes and shops and many enjoy walks along the jetty or swimming in the water; it’s also a great spot for people watching.
2. Delight your taste buds with a Central Market Tour

Get amongst the atmosphere at Adelaide’s biggest market, with artisan cheeses, smoked meats and some of the world’s best seafood to tempt your taste buds. Adelaide is well known for its wholesome produce and this market is a great place to sample it. Central Market is also a popular place for brunch and lunch as well.
3. Adelaide Zoo

Australia’s second oldest zoo is in Adelaide and is home to 300 exotic and native mammals, birds and reptiles. Don’t miss the opportunity to see the Giant Pandas, where Adelaide zoo is the only place to view these animals in the southern hemisphere. If you’re especially passionate about these gorgeous, gentle black and white creatures, you can arrange a behind the scenes visit to see them up close and learn more about this species. 4. Check out the latest trends at Rundle Mall

Adelaide’s most popular shopping mall is in one of the oldest buildings in Adelaide. A great location for all types of shopping, eating and entertainment as well. Rundle Place has become Adelaide’s best spot for fashion and is home to many great eateries and cafes. Shop at iconic stores like Ted Baker, Country Road, Witchery and Oxford and stay energised with the great food spots nearby.
5. Park Run

If you like to be active, out and about, you’re likely to enjoy Park Run. It’s a 5km Fun run every Saturday morning at 8am, completely free! It’s a great way to reach out to your local community and meet new friends, and have a coffee or cake afterwards with fellow Park runners. Adelaide has some gorgeous park run locations close to the beach. It’s a friendly run or you can also walk, and you don’t need to be experienced runner to have a go. Find out more info here.
6. Take a dip at the clear beach at Semaphore Beach

Enjoy the hub of activity at Semaphore beach from kite surfers to wind surfers to surfers etc. This gorgeous beach is only 20 minutes from Adelaide’s CBD, but you may feel like you’re far away from the CBD, as the pretty beach spot is set against mountain ranges. There is a long, 2 kilometres stretch of public space where you can choose from fun activities like mini golf, cycling on the track, riding the Ferris wheel or tasting the gastronomy of the stylish old pubs.
7. Take a picnic in the botanic gardens

If you’re looking for a pretty spot for a relaxing picnic, look no further than the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. These gardens first opened in 1857 and there is much to appreciate in terms of landscaped gardens and spectacular architecture.
Or if you're keen to know more about these gardens, free guided tours depart every day at 10.30am from the Schomburgk Pavilion.
8. Waterfall Gully

Located only 8km east of Adelaide, the Waterfall Gully is home to seven waterfalls and there are many popular and challenging walking trails to enjoy.
We recommend the Waterfall Gully to Mt Lofty Summit walk, it’s a popular trail that climbs up the park’s hills and allows for a stunning view over Adelaide. To hike from Waterfall Gully to Mt Lofty summit, allow for 1.5 to 3 hours return to cover the 3.9 km walk. Don’t miss this opportunity to see natural waterfalls and spot some of Australia’s famous wildlife.
