So you’ve landed in Australia, you’re excited to explore the city and start your studies. Check out our list of top 10 things to do for free in Sydney! 1. Be dazzled by the beach views of Sydney’s famous beaches

Don’t miss the stunning beach views on the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk, one of the most popular walks in Sydney. It offers spectacular ocean views from the clifftops and a chance to soak up the Australian beach culture of sandy beaches, surfers and local cafes. The walk is 6km, be prepared and take sunscreen, a hat, and comfortable walking shoes. You may also be tempted to go for a swim whilst enjoying the scenic surrounds of beaches, parks and rockpools.

2. Walk the Sydney Harbour Bridge

No need to pay to climb the bridge, when you can walk across the enjoy the spectacular views free of charge. From the Sydney Harbour bridge, you can appreciate the stunning harbour surrounds, Opera House and many different parks.  It's a great way of orientating yourself in the city.  The pedestrian pathway can be found on the bridge’s eastern edge. The walk is approximately 2.5 km and will take about 1 hour.  However, you may prefer to take your time and notice certain landmarks, whilst appreciating the amazing views!

3. Take a stroll through the Royal Botanic Gardens

Explore the impressive range of succulents, herb and tropical plants; it’s the perfect oasis for a picnic. Free tours depart every day at 10.30 am from the visitor centre. Don’t miss the Calyx, an impressive vertical wall garden filled with vibrant coloured flowers.

4. Chill out at the Opera Bar

Explore the stunning architecture of Sydney Opera house. Sit on the steps to the Opera house and enjoy the live music daily at this iconic location.  It's a great spot for people watching and soaking up Sydney's impressive landmarks. It’s a daily delight in Sydney for both tourists and Sydney-siders alike.

5. Check out the rides and attractions of Luna Park

Luna Park is Sydney's oldest amusement park and is located near the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It's fun to walk around the classic theme park rides and be amongst the adventure seekers. Entrance to Luna Park is free and it offers stunning views over Sydney. Take a stroll through and see if any of the rides tempt you! (Cost per ride is $10).

6. Meander through the Paddington markets

The well-known Paddington markets have been operating since 1973. It started as a way for local creative artisans to trade, and is famous for its unique, one off specialty products only found in these markets. Even window shopping is fun, leaving you feeling inspired by the impressive and diverse range of arts and crafts.

7. Soak up the atmosphere of Circular Quay

Enjoy the music of buskers at Circular Quay, many of which play Aboriginal music. The hustle and bustle of Circular Quay attracts many people travelling to different part of Sydney from this area, and offers many cafes and people watching opportunities.

8. Keep active and meet new friends at Park Run

If you like to be active, out and about, you’re likely to enjoy Park Run. It’s a 5km Fun run every Saturday morning at 8am, completely run by volunteers; you can choose to either walk or run.

It’s a great way to reach out to your local community and meet new friends, and have a coffee afterwards with fellow Park runners. 9. Dabble in a bit of culture at the Art Gallery of NSW

Feast your eyes at the Art Gallery of NSW, a leading museum in Australia where you can discover Australian and Aboriginal artwork, as well as European, Asian and modern art. The museum is in the heart of the city, nearby to Sydney Harbour.

10. Orientate yourself in Sydney with a free walking tour

A walking tour is a great way to orientate yourself around Sydney's landmarks and attractions.  The tour guides at Im Free are friendly and knowledgeable. You will no doubt be impressed by their knowledge of historical facts as you visit each attraction and monument.
