Established as a memorial to the Newfoundlanders who lost their lives on active service during the First World War and subsequent conflicts, Memorial University draws inspiration from these sacrifices of the past as it helps to build a better future for their province, country and the world.

As one of the top 20 research universities in Canada, Memorial has more than 30 research centres and received more than CAD 130 million in research funding in 2019-20. Memorial and its funding partners have long believed in investing in talented students, and it is proud to say that it has more than 1,500 graduate fellowships and 854 PhD students.

Memorial University has teaching and learning facilities across Newfoundland and Labrador, and abroad, giving students diverse choice of where to study. The province's capital city, St. John's, is home to the St. John's campus which offers a full range of academic programs in a modern, urban setting. It is the largest campus and is home to teaching and research facilities for Memorial's six faculties and six schools and serves as the university's administrative hub.
