The Friends' School

The Friends’ School is an independent, not-for-profit School that seeks every day to reflect its Purpose and Concerns statement. The School thrives on an intrinsic spirit of warmth and friendliness, and its strong community atmosphere reflects the intentions of the founding Quakers whose original vision for the School in 1887 was education for spiritual and intellectual growth. Friends’ is proud of its academic results, varied curriculum and co-curricular opportunities, but it is prouder of its students. The Friends’ School has a commitment to service, to equity of relationships, and to fostering independent and creative thinking.
The Friends’ School has a long association with welcoming international students to our community. It is one of only two schools in Tasmania to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, and as one of the leading academic schools in Australia. As a coeducational School for over 125 years, it sees considerable value in having students study with them from different cultures and parts of the globe. We have over 1,300 students across three campuses and are registered to accept 50 international students from Years 4 to 12.
The Friends’ School ensures that it’s international students can maximise their opportunities to immerse fully in it’s community and improve their English. It’s pastoral care system is very strong as it recognises that students are individuals, whose personal interests should be nurtured to assist their best academic outcomes.
The Friends’ School is based in Hobart, Tasmania which has a worldwide reputation as a clean, safe and beautiful capital city, making it the perfect study destination. The vibrant, diverse city of Hobart is a charming combination of traditional and modern. The many waterfront cafes, restaurants and studios nestle in centuries-old converted warehouses that overlook a beautiful harbour full of fishing boats and yachts.
