Portsmouth MBA Full Time Programme

The Full Time MBA is a one year programme (previously a 15 month programme)

The Full Time MBA with Business Placement is a two year programme (final validation due shortly)

The Portsmouth MBA will provide course members with the opportunity to develop their strategic problem-solving skills whilst mastering the latest business research knowledge and practice. It offers extensive involvement with real organisational issues embedded in an innovatively designed AMBA accredited programme. The MBA with Business Placement programme is up to two years in duration and the taught element in the first year is similar to the one year full time MBA. The difference being that students on the MBA with Business Placement programme undertake a Professional Development unit designed partly to prepare individuals for a placement in a culture different from their own. Students on the MBA with Business Placement will undertake an MBA Work-based Learning Project which is dependent on them securing an appropriate paid placement in the UK or overseas for their second year. Students apply to join their placement company and will need to pass a selection process. Though we cannot guarantee a placement, students will have access to our business contacts and our Business School Placement Office will support them in finding a suitable position. Should an individual student not secure a placement, they will then transfer to the full-time MBA one year programme. MBA with Business Placement students are welcome to join the master classes during their second year if their employer is happy for them to do so.

Note: the department will do everything possible to ensure a placement, however this is subject to successful interview and selection.

Campus Facilities

Location

Portsmouth is a lively and cosmopolitan city on the South Coast of England and it enjoys some of the best weather in the UK. It is an interesting and attractive city, where the historic sits comfortably with the modern. The city is compact – everything you could possibly need is in easy reach.

Portsmouth is a busy ferry post and close to several major airports, making it very easily accessible.

The long, pebbled beaches of the Southsea sea front are just a short walk from the city centre (and the main University Campus). Southsea Common is a great public social space and hosts a range of social activities throughout the year, including charity sporting events and live music.

As the home of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth has a strong and proud maritime heritage. It is the permanent home of historic ships such as Lord Nelson’s HMS Victory and the city is full of museums and art galleries which mark the influence of some of the city’s famous past residents, such as Charles Dickens and Rudyard Kipling.

Portsmouth is home to an array of shopping, sporting and entertainment opportunities, as vibrant and modern compliments to the city’s history. The 170m tall Spinnaker Tower is a local focal point, from the top of which, you can experience panoramic views of the surrounding south coast. Gunwarf Quays is home to designer outlet shopping and a multiplex cinema and there are live music, comedy and theatre shows on at the city’s various venues. Sports also play an important part in life in Portsmouth, from the beloved Portsmouth Football Club to the Olympic size swimming pool at the Mount batten sports centre. The Portsmouth coastline also provides the perfect setting to practice watersports such as sailing, windsurfing and scuba diving.
