Campus Facilities

Location

The University of Dundee is currently spread over three campuses: two in the city of Dundee and one in nearby Kirkcaldy. The main campus is the City Centre campus. A virtually traffic free area with attractive landscaping, the campus is nevertheless lively and contains first-rate facilities. Its compact nature gives it a campus university feel despite being in the heart of a city.

The Ninewells campus can be found three miles to the west of the city centre and is home to the University’s medical students. It is also the location of the Ninewells Hospital. Like the main campus, students based at Ninewells have all the benefits that come with being located within the city of Dundee.

Finally, the Kirkcaldy campus can be found in the town of Kirkcaldy, in Fife. The School of Nursing is partially based there and all students have access to the same level of facilities as students at the other two campuses. Transport links to Kirkcaldy are very good with trains running to Dundee and Edinburgh every half an hour.

Described as the largest village in Scotland, Dundee is compact and friendly. However, with a population of around 150,000, it has all the benefits of a much larger city. Situated beside the broad estuary of the River Tay and surrounded by beautiful countryside and coastline, Dundee offers plenty of opportunities for those who relish outdoor activities. With 59 parks, Dundee has more parks per person than anywhere else in the UK!

Known as the ‘City of Discovery’, Dundee provides both visitors and residents with plenty of cultural activities. The city boasts two free galleries, a theatre with a permanent company of actors and has, in the Caird Hall, one of the finest concert halls in the country (which has been used for the BBC’s ‘Proms in the Park’). Dundee has plenty to offer shopaholics and food connoisseurs alike with all tastes catered for. Despite all this, Dundee offers very good value for money- the cost of living is approximately 14% lower than the UK average, making it Scotland’s most cost- effective city.

For those seeking to travel further afield, Dundee has excellent transport links with the rest of the UK by train, coach and by plane. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow are only an hour and a half away.
