Why now’s the best time to apply and study in the UK

And it’s not just about post-study work rights. Get all the latest updates for those who are keen on chasing a safe and immersive experience in the UK.

As international students continue to grapple with travel disruption, as well as the worries of not being able to fulfil their study abroad goals, an increasing number of countries are taking huge strides in creating positive solutions.
Specifically, the UK Government, along with an array of the country’s quality institutions, have made recent announcements that assure not only the safety of students, but also their experience while being in the country.

"Why postpone your study plan while you can start it now? Apply to study in the UK now to be eligible for the 2-year Graduate route, a fantastic opportunity for you if you are seeking for employment opportunity after your graduation. You can either choose face-to-face, distance or blended learning."– Joelia Chheng, UK Destination Manager, IDP Education (Cambodia).

We’ve rounded up some key points to tell you why it’s the best time to study in the UK.

Post study work visa (officially known as the Graduate Immigration Route)

The government has confirmed that international students who graduate during or after the summer of 2021 will be eligible for a two-year post-study work visa, ever since the initial announcement in September 2019.  This applies to those who are already present in the UK or had started with online learning before flying over.

For prospective students who start their courses this year, they will also be eligible as long as they arrive in the UK before April 2021. Effectively, the initiative includes those who are taking blended learning - a mixture of online and in-person teaching.

Safety measures are taken seriously

The UK cares immensely about the health and wellbeing of international students and has made that their number one priority. UK institutions have stepped up their efforts to deal with the current health crisis, in order to ensure the health, safety and best interest of students.

As we all know, the pandemic is not to be taken lightly despite the lifting of measures in a number of countries, and each UK institution is working closely with experts to ensure that they have taken the necessary steps to support each student and to meet each unique set of circumstances.

In addition to support from the universities, international students will also have access to the services of UK’s National Health Service (NHS). International students will always be able to receive treatment that clinicians consider is immediately necessary or urgent at no upfront cost.

In fact, no charges apply to testing for coronavirus.

Universities are offering in-person teaching and support

Universities UK also conducted a survey which revealed that 97% of institutions confirmed that they will provide in-person teaching at the start of the academic year this autumn. Also, 87% of the universities will be offering in-person social opportunities such as events and sporting activities.

Of course, such initiatives will be closely in line with government and public health guidance. Other steps that international students will benefit from include mental health support as well as careers and study skills advice.

Such is the scale of the measures involved, institutions are also working with bars and cafes in the local community to deliver a safe and enjoyable experience for all students.

Choosing UK As Your Next Study Destination

With the support that international students are getting - not just from the government but also from the universities - the measures reflect the country’s efforts in providing assurance, that it is well-equipped to enable one’s pursuit of study and career goals.
