About Cleveland State University

Established as a state-assisted university in 1964, Cleveland State University assumed a tradition for excellence when it adopted the buildings, faculty, staff, and programs of Fenn College, a private institution of 2,500 students. In 1969, the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law became part of Cleveland State University. According to the Brookings Institution, CSU is No. 18 in the U.S. among public universities that fulfill a critical dual mission: providing upward mobility and conducting impactful research. CSU is the only Ohio university in the top tier of the Brookings list.

More than 1,000 courses support 200 major fields of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as professional certificate and continuing education programs. The University also offers an Honors Program to academically talented and highly motivated students. Engaged Learning connects CSU students with 3,000 co-ops, internships and other experiential learning opportunities with employers in virtually every industry, ensuing they graduate fully prepared to succeed in their chosen professions.

The state-of-the-art 110,000 square foot Recreation Center building contains a main gym, a multipurpose gym, six studios, several weight training and cardio fitness areas highlighted by a rubberized and turfed functional fitness space, racquetball/squash courts, a 1/10 of a mile indoor running track, and a gaming area with Xbox One and Nintendo Wii.

Cleveland State students possess the ability to engage in multiple interests. There are currently over 200 student organizations on campus recognized by the Center for Student Activities & Involvement that enrich the social, cultural and educational experiences of CSU students.

The Cleveland State campus consists of 85 acres--the largest footprint in downtown Cleveland--with 40 buildings used for teaching, research, housing, administration, and recreation. Nineteen-story Rhodes Tower contains the University Library, classrooms, and many faculty offices and is a striking feature on the Cleveland skyline.
