Kwantlen Polytechnic University

Canada
Overview

Overview

Canada's only polytechnic university, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) equips its students with valuable practical skills. All theory is backed up by experiential learning and hands-on experience, so that students learn by doing rather than simply from the pages of a book.

Set across five campuses in British Columbia, students at the university develop practical skills and the knowledge that will allow them to successfully enter the working world. More than 20,000 students from all over the globe have access to over 140 programs in Langley, Surrey, Cloverdale and Richmond.

Programs available include a wide range of degrees, diplomas and certificates covering the arts, mathematics, languages, marketing, journalism, business, computing, economics, counselling, criminology, design, accounting, anthropology, construction, fashion, music, science, and more. Students can also work towards qualifications in programs covering appliance servicing, automotive servicing, brewing, farrier training, data networking, masonry, and welding, among a host of other practical skills. Students leave KPU equipped for modern careers, whether practical or academic in nature.

Where thought meets action, Kwantlen Polytechnic University provides an exceptional education and fosters students to become leaders in their field. The university also benefits from close links with industry partners and the local indigenous community. Students' needs are accommodated with flexible scheduling and class times.

The Campus Master Plan ensures that each KPU campus is a part of the wider community, connected both physically and digitally, whilst remaining welcoming and fully accessible. Environmental considerations are also an important feature in the KPU Campus Master Plan.

State-of-the-art facilities include laboratories and studios, fitness centres and multi-faith centres. A free intercampus shuttle connects all five KPU campuses, so students can enjoy the clubs and opportunities at every KPU campus.

What's new

What's new

The university has adapted to the Covid-19 pandemic by allowing students to take part in study abroad exchanges online. While the virtual experience cannot replicate visiting a university in another country and discovering and living in a new city, it offers students the opportunity to meet new people, learn from experts around the world and study among new cultures.

For the fall 2021 intake, KPU is committed to returning to offering students in-person classes in a safe environment, with optimum student and staff safety measures in place. At present, the university continues to ensure all staff and contractors entering and working on the university campus have regular health checks and Covid-19 screening and meet the requirements outlined in the province of British Columbia safe working guidelines.

Student testimonial

"Entering into Kwantlen's Interior Design program was one of the best decisions I've made. Over the four years, I had a really positive experience with a supportive and committed group of faculty, staff, and students. Having previously attended a much larger university in British Columbia, I appreciated and thrived in the personal, one-on-one learning environment and the smaller class sizes. Because you move throughout the program with the same group of students and faculty, you create close relationships that will carry on in your professional and personal life after graduation." - Lisa Lee, 2011 Grad KASIAN Architecture Interior Design & Planning, Vancouver, BC
