Overview
Queen's University Belfast (Queen's) is the ninth oldest University in the UK, boasting alumni including Nobel Prize winners Seamus Heaney and David Trimble. A member of the prestigious Russell Group, the University was ranked in joint second place for its university facilities, as well as being voted among the top 10 most beautiful universities in the UK by Times Higher Education.
What's more, the University is situated in the centre of Belfast – ranked the number one region in the world to visit by Lonely Planet.
Over 94% of graduates at the University go on to find work within six months of leaving. The University is proud of the fact that over 30% of its students are from lower socio-economic groups, placing it in first place among the UK's leading universities for widening participation and making education accessible to everyone.
The University has a range of support networks in place to ensure that students get the help and advice they need during their studies. This includes a Careers, Employability and Skills Centre, additional support for disabled students, housing information and a counselling service.
Queen's boasts impressive teaching facilities, including a £50 million library – the McClay Library – home to 1.2 million books, computers and an iconic CS Lewis Reading Room. The room's interior has been inspired by the author's work, complete with a hand-carved replica of the wardrobe door from The Chronicles of Narnia. There is also a state-of-the-art fitness centre that is complete with a 25m swimming pool and an outdoor 3G grass pitch, theatres, restaurants, and the University's own music venue – Mandela Hall.
