What's new

COVID-19 university update

Suffolk offers students the chance to explore the university though a virtual tour of the institution. The virtual campus experience gives students the opportunity to find out what life is like at Suffolk, from academic programs to college traditions. Suffolk is also currently open for campus tours.

Suffolk is now test-flexible. Students are still required to provide proof of their English language proficiency and are encouraged to check the international admission requirements on the university website.

Foundation and English language courses are still available to students. Further, students are still able to apply for funding opportunities and scholarships.

University developments

Suffolk University has helped provide students with top class facilities via plenty of campus investment in recent years.

Suffolk recently opened a fully remodeled art and design space across four floors of the Sawyer Building, providing a purpose-built, innovative space for students to enjoy, featuring tech-flex classrooms lined with high-powered design computers, foundation studios full of easels and flooded with natural light. The resources are part of a tightly integrated building shared by various programs and providing students of all its innovative and more traditional subject areas with excellent facilities.

Art and Design professors at Suffolk collaborate with faculty from various departments and develop innovative interdisciplinary courses to merge visual thinking into the broader curriculum. This helps art students focus on finding practical applications through their work via exposure to different disciplines and create boundary-breaking education.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

What to Submit

International students need to submit a range of documents to gain admission to Suffolk University:

  1. Common Application or Suffolk Application along with USD 50 fee
  2. Essay and personal statement
  3. Official high school transcript or GED/HiSET results (in English or with an accompanying translation)
  4. Letter of recommendation
  5. Proof of English Proficiency (one of these options):
    • SAT or ACT scores demonstrating English proficiency (SAT/ACT not required for International Students. But a 520 EBRW on the SAT can be used for English Proficiency)
    • TOEFL or IELTS score (TOEFL minimum 79, IELTS minimum 6.5)
    • DUOLINGO English Test-DET (70 percent minimum score)
    • Exempt if you're from a country where English is the First and Official Language (please submit the SAT or ACT only). You can also use IGCSE/GCSE, AS/A-Level, IB, French BAC, German Abitur exam results as testing. If you only have predicted scores from any of these examination systems, please complete the test waiver form
    • PTE-Academic with 54 minimum score
    • IB HL English predicted scores (if provided by High School)
    • First Language English Exams in the IGCSE or GCSE or AS/A-Level Predicted/Actual results
    • Gaokao: students from mainland China who have taken the Gaokao exam with English as one of the three areas tested, may arrange an interview via or by contacting undergraduate admission

Scholarships & funding

There is a proud tradition of welcoming international students at Suffolk University. The dynamic, culturally diverse campus in the heart of Boston is built on a belief that quality education should be as affordable as possible. The university aims to help students estimate the cost of their study and then determined eligibility for financial aid, plus identify other opportunities to finance education such as scholarships, grants, loans and work-study.

International students will be automatically considered for merit-based financial aid when they are admitted to the university. Generally, awards are based on previous academic achievement, work experience, standardized test scores and how well they fit in their programs of study.

Suffolk awards over USD 160 million of financial aid to its students each academic year, with over 95 percent of new enrollees receiving some form of financial aid.
