Founded in 1876, Texas A&M University is the state's first public institution of higher learning. It is a research-intensive flagship university dedicated to sending Aggie leaders out into the world prepared to take on the challenges of tomorrow. The university has flourished to become one of the nation's premier research universities. It is one of only three Tier 1 universities in the state and was designated as a sea grant and a space grant institution, making it among the first four universities to hold the triple distinction.

Another 5,200 are at the branch campuses in Galveston and Qatar and at the School of Law, Higher Education Center at McAllen, and Health Science Center locations across Texas. Because of the emphasis that Texas A&M places on research and learning, there are numerous nationally-recognized centers, labs, and institutes that are part of the academic experience of Texas A&M at the main campus in College Station as well as at branch campuses in Galveston, Texas and Doha, Qatar.
