Overview

INTO University of Exeter offers international students tailored programmes to help them reach their study goals in the UK. There are a dynamic range of programmes on offer:

  • Undergraduate degree with International Foundation – Preparation year combined with an undergraduate engineering degree, requiring a single CAS and one study visa. Students progress to year one of their undergraduate degree, upon successful completion of the study plan.
  • Undergraduate degree with International Year One – Preparation year combined with an undergraduate engineering degree, requiring a single CAS and one study visa. Students progress directly to year two of their undergraduate degree, if academic requirements of the study plan are met.
  • International Foundation – students prepare for direct entry to year one of an undergraduate degree, while developing academic and English language skills.
  • International Year One – equivalent to the first year of undergraduate study, students build academic, study and English language skills in readiness for progression into the second year of an undergraduate degree.
  • Graduate Diploma – students will improve their academic, research and English language skills whilst preparing for direct entry to a postgraduate degree.
  • English language courses – prepare students for further academic study.

The INTO Centre is based at the world-class University of Exeter's main campus, where students can enjoy the expertise and modern facilities of the Russell Group institution, which ranks 12th in the UK in the Times and the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021.

Exeter has over 27,000 students from 130 different countries, and an extensive support system for international students, as well as the countless cultural and entertainment opportunities the university and city have to offer.

Average tuition fees for undergraduate and postgraduate students for three-term pathways in 2021–22 is GBP 21,095. Accommodation costs in 2021–22 range from GBP 6,270 to GBP 8,580.

The University of Exeter, where INTO University of Exeter students are based, has recently been ranked within the top 150 universities in the world in the QS World Rankings 2022.

For seven years in a row, Exeter has placed in the top 151–200 universities worldwide. This year it has ranked between 15th and 20th in the UK. Over 1,200 universities are ranked every year by the ARWU.

This result is one of the latest achievements for the University of Exeter, both on the UK and international stage. Other accomplishments in league tables for Exeter include:

Teaching quality

Teaching quality

INTO courses at the University of Exeter are taught by highly qualified and experienced teachers. Students receive plenty of support through academic guidance, tuition and one-to-one progress sessions.

Personal Tutors

At the beginning of the course and throughout the academic year, students meet with their assigned Personal Tutor. Personal Tutors help international students settle into student life, support them with their academic progression and can refer them to the right support services if they need them.

International students can be assured that they will receive all the support they need for a positive experience from the dedicated Student Services team. Services include:

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

To be eligible for study at INTO University of Exeter, students have to meet a small number of entry requirements.

Undergraduate degree with International Foundation

  • Academic requirements – 12 years of school (or equivalent) with good grades.
  • English language requirements – IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in all subskills) or equivalent.

Undergraduate degree with International Year One

  • Academic requirements – completion of A-Levels or the first year of an overseas degree.
  • English language requirements – IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in all subskills) or equivalent.

International Foundation

  • Academic requirements – students must have completed 12 years of school (or equivalent) and have finished with good grades.
  • English language requirements – depending on start date and course length, students will need a minimum IELTS score of 4.5–6.0, or equivalent.

International Year One

  • Academic requirements – depending on the course, students will need satisfactory completion of certain A-Levels, or good grades in the first year of an overseas degree.
  • English language requirements – students need a minimum IELTS score of 5.5, or equivalent.

Graduate Diploma

  • Academic requirements – depending on the course, students must have completed their first degree, a diploma or equivalent.
  • English language requirements – students will need a minimum IELTS score of 5.0-5.5, or equivalent.

English Language Courses

  • Academic requirements – pre-sessional English students will usually need an offer of a place to study at INTO University of Exeter. Study abroad with English requires one year of study at university/college overseas.
  • English language requirements – depending on the start date and course length, students will need a minimum IELTS score of 3.0, or equivalent.

Facilities

INTO Centre

The University of Exeter's welcoming INTO Centre is the central hub for international students to attend university-style classes, spend time studying and find comfortable places to relax with peers.

Lecture Theatre

Part of INTO's teaching facilities, the lecture theatre seats up to 110 students. It's fully dedicated to INTO students and provides the chance to learn in a university environment. The theatre features flexible seating, projector screens and a recording system, so students can recap lectures again in their own time.

Learning Resource Centre (LRC)

Open on weekdays, the INTO Centre's LRC is the perfect space for students to study. There is access to many helpful resources such as books, journals, computers, printers, scanning facilities and more.

Multimedia Classrooms

As well as normal study classrooms, the INTO Centre features two multimedia classrooms. Computers are installed in the desks and students can learn on specialist computer software.

Science Laboratory

Students on science pathways will benefit from practical classes in the science laboratory, which is equipped with high quality equipment for hands-on learning.

INTO Cafe

Located in the heart of the INTO Centre, the cafe nourishes students with a variety of refreshments such as hot and cold drinks, snacks and sandwiches.

University Facilities

INTO students can make use of Exeter's facilities, including the flagship Forum building, a GBP 48 million high-tech study area, including a 24/7 library with 1.2 million books and resources, shops, a bank, the student portal and plenty more. There's also a wide variety of food options for students to enjoy, from burgers to Mexican cuisine.

Accommodation

International students can choose to live in student residences on campus or with a carefully selected host close to campus. Accommodation is organised after students have made their applications to study at INTO University of Exeter.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

To reward high achieving international students, INTO University of Exeter has scholarships in place. The following scholarships are available for the 2020–21 academic year:

Regional Scholarship

INTO students who will be studying an International Foundation, International Year One or a Graduate Diploma pathway may be able to receive a scholarship of up to GBP 3,000 towards their tuition fees. The award is based on academic excellence.

International Foundation Progression Scholarship

Self-funded INTO students who put Exeter as their ‘firm' choice on UCAS, achieve a 70 per cent final grade and 65 per cent English grade after completing their International Foundation pathway may be eligible for an award of GBP 5,000 after their first year of study at the university.

University of Exeter Business School Progression Scholarship

Self-funded INTO students who put Exeter as their ‘firm' choice on UCAS, achieve a 75 per cent final grade and 65 per cent English grade after completing their International Foundation pathway may be eligible for an award of GBP 5,000 after their first year of study at the university.

Students are encouraged to check the availability and eligibility requirements for each scholarship.
