What’s new

The University of South Australia continues to demonstrate its strength as a globally connected and engaged university. In the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, the University maintained its strong position at number 26 in the THE Young University Rankings. This is a great result for an institution which is still only 28 years old and highlights the university’s commitment to being young and innovative, particularly given the increasing competition from other young universities.

The University also performed strongly in the THE Impact Rankings in April 2019, and was recognised as eighth in the world for its quality education, number three worldwide for reducing inequality and ranked 22nd globally for overall university impact.

Covid-19 update

Covid-19 has affected students globally, however UniSA has plans in place to facilitate students' study. The university is adapting and doing things differently so that students can still pursue their goals and plan for their future.

UniSA has a range of degrees available which include courses that can be started online as part of the September 2020 intake. Once students apply, they will be sent a customised study plan mapping out how the online to on campus process works so students can start their studies online and transfer to Adelaide later.

Students are encouraged to consult the university website to answer FAQs and to find out more.

UniSA highly ranked

The University of South Australia continues to demonstrate its strength as a globally connected and engaged university. Covid-19 update

Due to Covid-19, international students can begin their degree online. The University of South Australia will send customised enrolment study plans to new students, allowing them to begin studies remotely, and then transfer to campus learning when borders re-open.

New collaboration hub

A new partnership between UniSA and Optus will create a new Cyber Security Research and Collaboration Hub.

The hub will make technological innovations and educate students in cybersecurity and data science. It will bring together industry experts, students, and academics, who will work together to solve issues in the cyber industry.

Rankings

The university has been internationally recognised in several prestigious rankings. This includes:

  • Top 50 universities under the age of 50 (QS World Rankings 2021)
  • 2nd young university in Australia for teaching quality (THE Young University Rankings 2020)
  • Number one in Australia for industry research income (THE World University Rankings 2021)

UniSA has also been awarded a five star plus rating by the 2020 QS Stars Ratings, the highest score possible. It received this score because it demonstrated excellence in research, employability, teaching, facilities, inclusiveness, and innovation.

Allied Health and Human Performance

The university has a dedicated online application form for international students. This online portal allows applicants to track the progress of their submission, from initial application right through to the acceptance stage.

Each course has specific entry requirements, but all undergraduate applicants need to complete the equivalent of an Australian Year 12 programme in their home country. The University of South Australia's admissions team will also consider applicants from pathway or foundation study programmes.

Applicants to postgraduate programmes need to have achieved an undergraduate degree that is the international equivalent of one obtained at an Australian institution.

Scholarships & funding

Every year, the university awards a variety of scholarships to over 2,500 students.

The university offers an array of scholarships and bursaries to international students. Ranging from subject-specific funding to general scholarships, options include:

Vice Chancellor's international excellence scholarship

Awards a 50 per cent tuition fee reduction for up to four years of full-time study. Recipients of this scholarship need to maintain a 5.0 GPA each academic year.

International merit scholarship

All full-time international students are automatically assessed for this scholarship. It awards a 15 per cent tuition fee discount for the duration of studies if the recipient maintains a GPA of 4.5 (or equivalent). Recipients can also receive credit/ RPL/Advanced Standing towards their degree, but they must have at least two years/72 units of study remaining to be eligible.

BUPA UniSA International Student Grant

A one-off payment of AUD 1,000 to full-time international students commencing undergraduate or postgraduate programmes. Applicants need to demonstrate excellence both academically and in extracurricular activities.

MiskSA Student Support Grant

An AUD 1,000 grant for full-time undergraduate students who are facing personal hardships. The grant will help students cover academic costs, including textbooks, travel and computing equipment. Applicants need a GPA of 6.0 or above and submit a written statement highlighting academic achievements.

Australia Awards

The university has also partnered with the Australian government to provide worldwide scholarships and bursaries.

The University of South Australia also offers scholarships to international research students and high achievers in postgraduate studies.
