Arlene Griffiths MBA, BSc, FIDM
Director, Client Relations and Business Development UK & US
Arlene runs the UK and US teams and companies that work closely with our clients, such as universities. She is based in Cardiff and was responsible for setting up the UK operation although she now also spends time in our Philadelphia office.
Arlene joined IDP from the British Council where she was Director, Education UK Partnership. Her entry into the education sector came directly before this role when she worked at Cardiff University where she was Head of the International Office. This is a far cry from where she started her career, being one of the few fortunate people to have joined Glaxo Holdings as a Marketing Trainee. The early part of her career was spent in heath care leaving this as Sales & Marketing Director to enter consultancy work. Arlene has also served on company boards.
Head of Client Relations, UK
Bryony heads up the Client Relations Team in the UK and works closely with our clients (Universities, PPPs and ESL). She is home based (in Somerset) but is often in the office in Cardiff as well as out and about around the UK. Bryony is a member of the UK Senior Management Team.
Bryony has worked in the Education sector since 2003 following a move from a successful career in the commercial sector (18 years in marketing and technical development in the personal products markets). She joined IDP Education from the University of Exeter, where she worked in the International Office as Assistant Director, Partnerships, managing the University’s strategic partnerships worldwide and heading up the Study Abroad programme. Prior to Exeter, Bryony was Head of International Student Recruitment at Bath Spa University, UK where she recruited students from around the world. And before Bath Spa, she was at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands where she was responsible for recruitment and admission of international students into masters programmes within the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
Bryony graduated with a first class honours degree in Chemistry from the University of Manchester in 1985. Her first job was at Unilever Research Laboratory, Port Sunlight, UK as a research chemist looking at the delivery of active ingredients in dental formulations. She moved into development of decorative cosmetics before Unilever sold the Rimmel colour cosmetics brand to Coty Inc. Bryony moved with the brand and switched from development to marketing. She helped Coty manage the Global relaunch of Rimmel and its first appearance in the US through Walmart. She moved to a small skincare company - Liz Earle Cosmetics, where she headed up marketing and operations before deciding on a career change and moved into Educational marketing.
Client Relationship Manager and Trainer
Naomi graduated from Leeds University in 2004 where she had studied languages. She is fluent in French and Spanish and can also converse in Portuguese and Guarani, one of the official languages of Paraguay. On graduating Naomi joined the management graduate scheme with Enterprise Rent a Car, where she quickly progressed to, Assistant Manager and then, based on her results, was given her own Branch to manage.
In 2008 Naomi joined NCC Education. NCCEducation is a global provider and awarding body of British education and as such works with a number of UK universities. NCC provides the complete education solution to over 200 Accredited Partner Centres in more than 45 countries worldwide. It provides qualifications in Business and IT, from foundation through to degree, master's level and beyond. Naomi was International Business Development Manager with NCC, where she was responsible for growing the international business and identifying new opportunities in Europe.
Katie manages our Student Recruitment Services Contracts, ensuring that we work in accordance with the law around the globe when sourcing students for the UK and US markets. As part of this role, she works with the Client Relationship Teams in Cardiff and Philadelphia, as well as University International Offices and Legal Teams throughout the United Kingdom and America.
Katie also manages Human Resources in the UK and is involved with staff training and development, as well as leading the UK's High Performing Team and Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.
Prior to joining IDP, Katie ran Advocates for International Development (A4ID), the City of London based charity which she founded, coordinating pro bono (free) legal assistance from international lawyers to benefit the development sector around the world. In this role she also worked closely with the Attorney General's office in the House of Commons and leading charities such as Oxfam, Global Witness and Save the Children. The work of A4ID was endorsed by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and continues to this day. Katie started life as a trainee corporate solicitor with Richards Butler (now Reed Smith) in London and won The Law Society 'Trainee of the Year' Award in 2007 for all her contributions towards corporate social responsibility.
Client Relationship ManagerJames Curran took up the role of Client Relationship Manager at IDP in September 2014. His role is to manage the relationship between specific clients and the IDP network offices. He has over 12 years experience in international student recruitment, having joined us from the University of East London (UEL) where he was International Development Manager and then Head of International Development. During his time at UEL he led on the university’s international corporate marketing, communications and student recruitment activities. Prior to that, he worked as International Development Officer at London Metropolitan University where he managed the university’s international recruitment in several of its key markets.
James graduated with a joint honours degree in European Business Administration from the University of Wolverhampton in the UK and inHolland Univeristy in the Netherlands in 2001.
Client Relationship ManagerClaire works within IDP UK as a Client Relationship Manager. Her role is to manage and support the relationship between our UK clients and the IDP network. Claire is the key point of contact for our network offices in North Asia (China, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan) communicating the objectives of our UK clients and supporting the network in their recruitment objectives.
Claire joined IDP from the University sector where she has worked in international student recruitment and support for over 15 years. Roles including Senior International Officer at Roehampton University and Associate Dean of International Affairs at the University of Wales, Newport. In her previous role Claire managed recruitment and student support staff and spent many years travelling globally to instigate and maintain student recruitment initiatives and international partnerships.
After graduating, Claire gained an MA for International Education Professionals from Nottingham University and co-run by UKCISA (UK Council for International Students) and also the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Professional Diploma (CIM) co-run with the British Council.
Claire joined IDP in August 2015 and is based in Bristol travelling regularly to visit clients and the IDP UK Office in Cardiff.
AnalystRalph works within IDP UK primarily as Research Analyst and secondarily as an assistant to the director (UK and US).
In March 2014 Ralph again joined the team as a part-time analyst – a role which he started full-time in October 2015. Currently, he is finishing his PhD in Sociology – Global Political Economy in Cardiff University where he is based. Originally from the Philippines, Ralph came to the UK in 2011 as an international student to pursue his postgraduate diploma in social science and eventually advancing as a PhD candidate with a full scholarship by the Nippon Foundation.
Before coming to the UK, Ralph held a junior analyst role within the Philippine government, specifically with the Chief of Staff for Intelligence and subsequently with Strategic Studies in the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Prior to that, in 2008 he graduated with a B.A. in Humanities and Political Economy in the University of Asia and the Pacific, Manila, Philippines.
Head of Marketing Communications and Business DevelopmentMartyn works closely with the Customer Relationship Team and the overseas network to ensure the ongoing promotion of our UK clients. Martyn is also responsible for developing the stakeholder engagement strategy to increase the profile of IDP within the UK.
After graduating from Cardiff University with a BA in English Language (Communications) he joined the International Office team. This is where he acquired his interest in international education and also Marketing. This drove him to complete his MSc in Strategic Marketing, from Cardiff University, where he received the prestigious Sir Julian Hodge Prize. Since then Martyn has worked with a number of UK universities, including Cardiff Metropolitan, Bangor, Nottingham where he was Assistant Director of International Office, which meant he was directly responsible for Nottingham's considerable network of overseas offices. Martyn also broadened his horizons by spending time at the British Council where he was Head of Marketing and Communications, for the Education UK Partnership. Martyn joins us from Loughborough Univesity where he is Deputy Director of the International Office. His responsibility in this role included establishing their new London campus which is located on the Olympic London 2012 athletic park.
Marketing AssistantYen joined IDP in March 2015 and is responsible for marketing and communications activities for the IDP UK office including management of the website and internal communications.
Prior to joining IDP UK she had worked in several higher education institutions including King's College London and was Marketing Manager for the University of East London, where she was the operational lead for marketing and student recruitment activity for the university. Yen graduated from the University of Manchester in 2003 with a degree in Psychology.
