Why should students from Canada choose Ireland for physiotherapy?
There are many reasons why domestic and international students from Canada choose Ireland when it comes to pursuing physiotherapy as a career. For a start, the country boasts a robust healthcare system and a strong emphasis on physiotherapy education. Then, graduates from Irish institutions are eligible for professional recognition by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) and can register with the Irish health regulatory body, CORU.
Another reason is that a lot of physiotherapy programs include clinical placements. Upon graduation, students are eligible to register with CORU and, upon meeting additional criteria, can join the ISCP as Chartered Physiotherapists.

Here are some of the Irish universities offering undergraduate programs (BSc Physiotherapy):
Trinity College Dublin (TCD): The objective of this four-year course is to enable students to become competent professionals with the ability to work independently with patients. There are two components to physiotherapy: theory and clinical practice. At the end of the second year, students start clinical placements under the supervision of skilled and experienced tutors.
Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI): RCSI's BSc in Physiotherapy is offered in two formats: School Leavers do a four-year degree programme, while Graduate Entry students do a three-year programme. Non-EU applicants need to meet specific GPA requirements and prove English language proficiency.

In the first and second years, students attend lectures and practical classes. In the third and fourth years, the focus is on clinical education and advanced physiotherapy skills.
University of Limerick (UL): The Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy at UL is a four-year degree program which includes a total of 31 weeks of clinical practice in the last two years of the programme. The first year provides a foundation in anatomy and physiology, communication and behaviour, and an introduction to physiotherapy practice. Over the remaining three years, students undertake studies in the various disciplines of physiotherapy, including cardiorespiratory care, clinical neurology, and musculoskeletal disorders for people across the lifespan.
Here are some of the Irish universities offering postgraduate programs (MSc Physiotherapy) for those with a relevant undergraduate degree:
University College Cork (UCC): The MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-Registration) is an accelerated pre-registration program for students with a relevant primary degree in a subject other than physiotherapy. It uses learning and teaching methods that best support students to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional attributes comparable to physiotherapy practice. This program is full-time over three semesters per year, over two years.
University College Dublin (UCD): Graduates of the Professional Master's Physiotherapy Program are eligible for registration with CORU, the Health and Social Care Professions regulatory body of Ireland and membership of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. It combines taught physiotherapy modules and rehabilitation research with over 1000 hours of clinical practice.
University of Limerick (UL): The School of Allied Health offers a two-year MSc (Professional Qualification) in Physiotherapy. The program was shortlisted as a finalist in the 'Best New Postgraduate Course' category of the prestigious 2018 Grad Ireland Higher Education Awards and 'Best Postgraduate Course' in 2019.
