There are many standardized English tests that you can take to prove your English level. The International Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world’s most popular English Language test with over 3 million tests taken in 2018. Accepted for study, work, and migration, IELTS is recognized by over 10,000 educational institutions, professional organizations, and immigration & government authorities as a true and reliable measure of English language skills. IELTS is currently available in more than 140 countries, with over 125 test locations across Canada, and several official IELTS venues in Oshawa and the surrounding Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
IELTS test-takers in Oshawa have the option to register for one of two different versions of IELTS. IELTS Academic is for people applying for higher education or professional registration in an English-speaking environment. IELTS General Training is for those who are going to English speaking countries for secondary education, work experience or training programs. IELTS General Training is also a requirement for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK. Candidates must check with the institutions to which they are sending their scores to confirm which version of the IELTS they need to register for. please note that once the test registration is confirmed, IELTS will not be able to refund the test fee for an incorrect selection.
IELTS is required for immigration to Canada
IELTS General Training is accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as evidence of English-language proficiency. If you are applying for permanent residency in Canada, it is likely that you will be required to present your test result as a part of your application. You can also submit IELTS results for Canadian citizenship.
The Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) are the national standards used in Canada for describing, measuring and recognizing the English language proficiency of adult immigrants and prospective immigrants for living and working in Canada. Official IELTS Practice Tests for Test Takers in Ottawa
In IELTS, your final band score is directly proportional to the number of hours spent practicing your English language skills. Important Information Regarding IELTS Test Dates
IELTS test results are released 5-7 days after taking the computer-delivered IELTS and 13 days after completing the paper-based version of the test. Test takers can log in to their online account to confirm their scores on results day. Your official result, called a Test Report Form (TRF) will be mailed to the address you provided in the registration form on results day. Test takers can nominate up to five organizations to which they would like to send their official results when completing the online test registration form. Your results will be sent to these organizations at no extra cost. IELTS results are valid for two years from the date of your test. During this time, you can order additional copies of your official results to be delivered to as many organizations as you need to. Requests for results can be placed via submitting a Request for Additional TRFs form. Any requests for official results delivery made after results have been released will be charged a small administrative fee. Please contact the test center where you took IELTS for more information regarding this process.
If you feel that your IELTS score does not represent your actual language skills, you have the option to request for an Enquiry on Results (EOR). You can choose to have one or more parts of your test-remarked. The fee is the same whether you get one or all sections re-marked. The re-marking process can take between 2 to 21 days, depending on several factors including the number of sections requested for re-marking. If the result of the re-mark is higher than your original result, you will need to return your current Test Report Form and will receive a new Test Report Form in the mail and a full refund of your administrative fee. If the result of the remark is not higher than your original results, you will receive an EOR letter stating your final result status. All inquiries regarding this process should be made to your original test center.
