About SUNY Buffalo State College

Established in 1871, Buffalo State's long history and commitment to education are the cornerstones of its respected reputation. The largest comprehensive four-year college in the SUNY system, Buffalo State educates nearly 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students each year and has an alumni population of 100,000. The college is known for its strong community connections and a continuing commitment to providing high-quality lifelong learning opportunities.

Buffalo State offers more than 170 undergraduate academic programs (majors, minors, dual majors, concentration, specializations, emphases, certificates, and combined or accelerated degrees) and more than 60 graduate academic programs. The college has 1232 full time faculty of which 77.8% have doctoral degree and 86% has terminal degree. Around 53 Faculty members have been awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Beyond academic life, Buffalo State offers a wide range of opportunities to engage in new activities, meet new people, and enjoy the exciting and friendly atmosphere on campus. Involvement in a club or organization is one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences for a student. Buffalo State has more than 100 student organizations.

The Sports Arena boasts a 3,500-seat basketball arena and a one-tenth-mile (160 meter) indoor track. The Arena sits adjacent to the 1,800-seat Ice Arena (Buffalo's only collegiate ice rink), and houses the Buffalo State Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame. It is the home venue for men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball and indoor track and field, and is a practice facility for several of Buffalo State's other teams.

Buffalo State’s beautiful 125-acre campus is located between the historic Elmwood Village and the 350-acre Delaware Park. It is in the heart of a vibrant museum district, surrounded by magnificent green spaces, trendy cafés, restaurants, shops, and supermarkets. As a Buffalo State student, they can enjoy all the advantages of living in New York State’s second-largest metropolitan area—and with many public transportation and car-share options, getting around the city is easy without needing to own a car.
