Setting appropriate IELTS entry requirements for your organisationThe appointment of a standards setting committee can be a very useful initiative when starting a review of the level of English proficiency required to be admitted to your educational institution or organisation. Within the standards setting committee you might include employer groups/registration bodies, teaching and learning staff, language experts, your institution’s policy makers and former students/graduates with IELTS experience.
Read our step-by-step guide to setting appropriate IELTS requirements for your organisation.
List your IELTS requirements on the IELTS websiteMany people mistakenly believe that there is a fixed pass or fail score for the IELTS test. They do not realise that IELTS entry requirements vary from institution to institution.
To help inform people about the score they need to enter your institution, all educational institutions are encouraged to list their IELTS requirements on our IELTS websites. This listing provides exposure to the millions of students and professionals who visit our sites to check the IELTS requirements of institutions and organisations around the world. Your institution can also use the list to quickly check and compare the IELTS requirements of other institutions.

Research grants and fundingAll IELTS-related research activities are coordinated under a framework for ongoing test development and validation. The success of IELTS rests on attention to four key test qualities – validity, reliability, impact and practicality. These four factors have been the subject of a great deal of research involving academics, administrators, teachers and other practitioners throughout the world for more than 40 years.
Advances in applied linguistics, language pedagogy, language assessment and technological capabilities constantly challenge test developers to review, refine and reshape their approaches to test design, development, delivery and evaluation.
