Liz Yong - Client Relations Manager (Australia), IDP Malaysia
How long have you worked for IDP Education?
Eight years – starting off as counsellor and moving on to Team Leader. Prior to my current role, I was also the Office Manager.
Could you describe your role?
Working in Malaysia, I am Client Relations Manager for the Australian market. I work for higher engagement with clients and strong relationships with representatives to increase the Australian client satisfaction rating.
In line with this, supporting branches to ensure growth in client wise performance, and therefore assisting to develop program based updates and strategies.
What are your plans for IDP in your country?
My plans for IDP Malaysia are to:
- support branch offices to have better client contribution based on their own market potential
- conduct monthly pipeline reviews with all office managers and counsellors to increase achievements, opportunities, learning and updates; and most importantly to discuss and drive actions to support their activities
- to ensure healthy client participation in all our events by delivering successful Australia events and growing student attendance
- to be more creative by exploring ongoing innovation in event formats
Can you share with us your educational and work background?
I have a marketing background with a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing (Chartered Institute in Marketing). Before coming to IDP, I was the Arts & Cultural Officer at British Council Malaysia.
My main role was to showcase and promote British arts & culture to Malaysia. I had a very interesting role there. We collaborated with many local creative industries; especially the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Health, Five Arts Centre and Actors Studio.
My experience at the British Council brought me a different perspective and greater understanding of marketing. One of my best acheivements there was a premier theatre performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) from the UK in 2002.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love nature. I love to go out and explore a different horizon, set myself free and absorb new vibes and new energy, be it by traveling to another country or stayinging in Malaysia.
