IELTS for Work and Migration

IELTS is required for skilled migration and permanent residency in many English-speaking countries.

Accepted for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK and the US

IELTS is accepted as a proof of English language proficiency for study, work and migration in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the US where English is the main language used in the workplace or the classroom. Each country has its own IELTS scores requirements.

In Australia, IELTS is accepted for many visa categories as well as permanent residency. IELTS is also required by some Australian professional organisations and registration bodies.


If you are applying for a work visa, professional registration or for permanent residency in Canada, you will probably have to submit proof of English language proficiency as a part of your application. IELTS General Training is accepted by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) for immigration to Canada.

New Zealand

IELTS is required by the New Zealand government for different types of visas, including Skilled Migrant, Investor and Entrepreneur, Residence, Work and Parent categories as evidence of English language ability


When applying to live permanently in the UK (also known as applying for 'leave to remain' or 'long residence'), you are required to demonstrate satisfactory English language skills.
