The Year 11 and 12 college system in Canberra offers international students a unique experience. With the two senior years separate from the high school, a very serious learning environment is available for young adults with a focus on preparing them for further study after they graduate from college. The continuous assessment system particularly benefits international students, as there is no major external examination to sit at the end of year 12. Canberra also has a strong focus on meeting the needs of gifted and talented students and offers a wide curriculum choice to suit the intellect, interest and capability of every student. The ACT Government Education and Training Directorate accept responsibility for the welfare for students under the age of 18 who are not cared for by a parent in Australia. Homestay accommodation for international students over 15 years old is provided. International students in Canberra government schools receive a high level of care. Each school has an International Private Student (IPS) coordinator and the ACT Government Education and Training Directorate provides a dedicated pastoral care officer and homestay coordinator who monitor student’s attendance, progress, health and wellbeing. Officers from the International Education Unit are on 24 hour emergency call to assist international students.
As a smaller city, Canberra is safe and able to offer a personalised service to international students in a unique environment.
Fees and Charges
Tuition and Administrative Fees for Mainstream Schooling – 571 Student Visa Holders (based on one academic year)
The following fees and charges are for students studying in Canberra Government Schools on a 571 student visa subclass.
