What's new

New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) has been awarded a grant of USD 150,000 by the State of New York to develop a Research and Technology Innovation Bioengineering Laboratory at its Old Westbury, Long Island campus.

The new lab facility is expected to enable engineering and life sciences faculty and students to tackle scientific problems ranging from fighting pathogenic bacteria to reducing negative environmental impacts from storm water. The grant for the laboratory will also support Long Island’s steady emergence as a hub for life sciences research and advancements in biotechnology.

Starting in fall 2018, four lead faculty members will use the lab to work with undergraduate and graduate students on:

  • Experimenting with disease-causing bacteria strains to learn how best to combat them with bacteriophages
  • Using nanotechnology to develop a highly sensitive biosensor for early detection of conditions like HIV and Zika
  • Developing virtual reality environments to help water safety professionals visualize a hazardous site before actually stepping into it
  • Optimizing genetic tools and developing engineering software suitable for tracking and classifying animal behaviors

NYIT’s School of Engineering and Computing Sciences has also been awarded funds totaling more than USD 1 million in support of the school’s Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center (ETIC) and associated job-creation and entrepreneurship efforts, as well as for the School’s Class 10,000 Clean Room and nanofabrication facility.

Old Westbury

Jonesboro

At the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) at Arkansas State, faculty and staff members are committed to training osteopathic physicians for a lifetime of learning and practice. The facilities at Jonesboro include a state-of-the-art anatomy lab, osteopathic manipulative lab, medical library, and classrooms fitted with technology for in-person and two-way streaming of lectures between the Arkansas and New York campuses.

China

NYIT’s programs are also offered in conjunction with prestigious partner universities throughout China. Transfer agreements enable students to earn credit toward NYIT business programs at a number of Chinese universities.

New York Institute of Technology’s New York campus is located in the west of Manhattan, with easy access by public transport. Long Island, NY

Jonesboro, AR

Osteopathic physicians are trained by expert faculty and staff members at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) in Arkansas State. Located in Jonesboro, students have access to a medical library, osteopathic manipulative lab, state-of-the-art anatomy lab and technology enabled classrooms facilitating the streaming of lectures between New York and Arkansas.

Vancouver

Students can choose to be part of a rich campus life by being student leaders, volunteers or interns and participate in the Institute’s conferences and club activities. There is scope for extracurricular activity across multiple areas of interest such as the arts, entertainment, politics, public service, business and much more. Having a well-rounded extracurricular life also helps students learn about and soak up a lot more of the local culture.

NYIT’s Community Service Centers help students get involved as volunteers on behalf of community agencies, or as coordinators and the liaison person between NYIT, clubs and off-campus organizations. On-campus roles, especially after the student’s first year, could be those of peer advisors, student tutors or orientation leaders.

There are also plenty of recreational options for students around and beyond the campus. From live performance venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts to a number of museums and galleries, everything is within a 15-minute walk from the campus. Those who prefer relaxed public spaces can head to the famous Central Park which is less than five minutes by walk, or choose from the other options that surround the area. Shopping and dining are also adequately catered to, with a whole range of options within walking distance of campus.

Students have the option of staying in one of NYIT’s two safe, secure Manhattan residence halls, located in two of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods. The halls are an easy bus or subway ride from campus.

The Andersen Hall has double and triple rooms a dining hall and a full meal plan. The Riverside Terrace Residence Hall offers multiple options including single, double, and triple rooms, most with private bathrooms a kitchen on every floor and a student lounge.

For those who wish to live off-campus, NYIT is on hand to help with details of online brokers and rental listings.

The Institute’s trained staff will assist students during every phase of their NYIT residence life experience, in the following ways:

  • NYIT Resident Assistants (RAs) plan activities to build community relationships with other students.
  • Hall Directors manage teams of RAs assist in the daily operation and management of residence halls.
  • Community Development Assistants work with NYIT RAs and hall directors to help ensure proper safety operations and facilities management.

Security personnel and building staff are on duty 24 hours at all Manhattan residence halls. There is also a strong community police presence surrounding its buildings.

In the Old Westbury campus, NYIT has partnered with SUNY Old Westbury to offer rooms in residence halls located minutes from its campus. The options include:

  • King Hall and Anthony Hall (for first-year students, with RAs to provide programs and activities)

  • Bolivar

Students in New York City can choose from New York Tech’s two city halls of residence, the Anderson Hall and the Riverside Terrace. Both are based in vibrant neighbourhoods and are only a short journey from the campus.

There are single, double and triple room options, as well as meal plans. Many rooms have private bathrooms, kitchens and a student lounge. Accommodation staff and security teams are available at all times at the halls of residence. Students can also be assured of a strong community police presence in the area. Students who would prefer to live off-campus can receive help from New York Tech to find something suitable.

At the Long Island campus, students can choose from halls of residence that are located very close to campus. Options include:

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

NYIT offers students a range of scholarships and grants, which are renewable each semester, based on academic achievements and high scholastic potential.

To be eligible for these, candidates must:

  • Be full-time students
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA as specified by the scholarship
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements at all times

First year scholarships range from $5,000 to $22,000 per year and are available to first-year bachelor’s degree applicants for a maximum of four years. In order to qualify for these scholarships, students must:

  • Be admitted to a bachelor’s degree program
  • Have earned a minimum 80 GPA in high school
  • Submit SAT or ACT scores with a minimum score of at least 980 on the SAT or 19 on the ACT

Students who meet these requirements will automatically be awarded an academic scholarship and the amount awarded will be based on your combined GPA and SAT/ACT scores.

Transfer scholarships are available to students transferring into a bachelor’s degree program from an institution in the US or overseas. Scholarship amounts range from $5,000 to $13,000 per year. In order to qualify, students must:

  • Have earned a minimum of 24 credits from an accredited college or university
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

The amount awarded will be based on your cumulative GPA.

The Graduate Scholarship Award is a scholarship worth USD 3,000 per-year as a tuition-only credit for the fall and spring semesters only, for a maximum of three years (six semesters) of continuous full-time enrolment (nine credits). Proration may be available for applicants taking less than nine graduate level credits per semester but students must register for at least three graduate level credits per semester for this proration.

To receive this scholarship, students must:

  • Be accepted to a matriculated graduate degree
  • Have earned a bachelor’s degree with a 3.3 CGPA or equivalent
  • Earned a high enough combined score on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) as determined by the concerned academic department (if the program requires a GRE)
  • Have a minimum GMAT score of 400 (for MBA applicants)

New York Institute of Technology has some of the lowest private tuition fees in the state of New York. It also provides millions in scholarships and grants each year. The majority of awards are based on academic excellence and scholastic potential.

Undergraduate students

There are a large number of first year scholarships available, where eligible first-year bachelor’s degree students can receive up to USD 23,000 each academic year for four years.

Transfer students

Transfer scholarships are available to eligible students who transfer into a bachelor’s degree program from an institution either in the U.S. or overseas. Students can receive an award of up to USD 16,000 each academic year.

Graduate students

The Graduate Scholarship Award offers eligible students pursuing graduate study up to USD 3,000 each academic year, in tuition credits.

Students are encouraged to research what is available and check the eligibility requirements.
