Oklahoma State University, also known as Oklahoma State, OKState or OSU, is a top-tier land-grant university situated in Stillwater, Oklahoma. A five-campus institution, Oklahoma State University (OSU) is a top public university which offers over 300 programs both on-campus and online.

Over 35,000 students from more than 100 countries are enrolled at OSU, creating a vibrant and inclusive learning environment.

The institution is renowned for its teaching, research, and sustainability work. It was recently ranked 8th in the U.S by the Times Higher Education's 2021 impact rankings, which assesses progress made towards the United Nation's sustainable development goals.

Founded in 1890, the university is an established and top-tier land-grant institution. Accessibility to education is a primary focus for OSU, so the student-teacher ratio is 20:1, so academic support is easily available and personable.

Rated amongst the top 25 best online colleges in the U.S, (Onlinecolleges.com 2020), it provides comprehensive and modern facilities across its multiple campuses. This includes its Edmon Low library, which is one of the top 100 academic research libraries in the U.S.

Ranked one of the best college towns to start a career, the campus is just 60 miles from both Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Travel between the city and campuses using community buses and transit are free for OSU students and staff. What's new

OSU is proud to be recognized as a leading institution for diversity and inclusion. For the seventh time, it was awarded a Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award and 2018 Diversity Champion award from INSIGHT into Diversity magazine in 2018. The magazine is a prestigious higher education publication and the award celebrates institutions dedicated to creating and maintaining educational spaces which are exceptionally inclusive.

The OSU campus has seen a construction boom in recent years with new state-of-the-art educational buildings for several academic colleges. Currently under construction is the Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music, which will feature a range of music laboratories and teaching studios, all outfitted with top technology. The new music school sits alongside the McKnight Center for the Performing Arts, which includes a world-class concert hall and will allow students to learn and perform side-by-side with renowned artists from across the globe.

In 2018, the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology unveiled its Endeavor Lab featuring 23 interdisciplinary engineering science and project laboratories, millions of dollars' worth of cutting-edge instruments and a hands-on learning experience not available anywhere else. The Spears School of Business moved into its new home, a magnificent crescent shaped building full of collaborative spaces that replicate modern corporate facilities, including real-time tracking of the stock exchange.

The College of Education and Human Sciences added a new wing to its building in 2016 to enhance learning opportunities for students studying fashion and interior design. The space features both full-service and quick-service restaurant teaching labs, a beverage education center, a sewn products lab, and virtual and augmented reality laboratories.

Rankings

Oklahoma State University has recently been ranked 8th in the U.S by the Times Higher Education's 2021 impact rankings. Also ranked 85th out of 1,115 institutions worldwide, this is global recognition that the university is successfully working on sustainable development goals set out by the United Nations.

Its Center for Health Sciences has been recognized as one of the best medical schools in the U.S (U.S. News and World Report 2021). Placing in the top 10 schools for serving medically needy and rural areas, its rankings include:

  • 7th for health professional shortage areas
  • 10th for rural care
  • 13th in diversity

Several of its online programs have also been recognized amongst the nation's best by U.S. News and World Report's 2021 Best Online Programs ranking. This includes the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology and the College of Education and Human Sciences.

Library expansion

The university's partnership with a private university has created a new interlibrary loan service.

Oklahoma State and Universidad Popular Autonoma del Estado de Puebla, a private institution in Mexico, has been sharing student exchanges, dual degree programs and faculty collaborations for several years.

The new loan service means staff and students from both universities can borrow digital resources from each other.

Mental health

To improve mental health resources on campus, the university has joined up with the JED Foundation. A four-year partnership, it will help OSU develop their mental health programs, policies and services.

The OSU Center for Health Sciences Department of Wellness has also launched a new mental health initiative. The online platform shares resources, self-help modules and has expanded mental health services for students both on and off-campus.

Ferguson College of Agriculture

The Ferguson College of Agriculture offers a wide array of impressive programs. Students and faculty of the department have won awards nationally and internationally due to excellent academic performance, community work and partnerships.

College of Arts and Sciences

The College of Arts and Sciences is OSU's biggest and most diverse college. With study abroad and internship opportunities, the college prepares students for both further study and the professional world.

College of Education and Human Sciences

College of Education and Human Sciences is home to nearly 4,000 students in 35 undergraduate and 64 graduate nationally recognized degree programs. Our robust research portfolio includes human development across the lifespan, K-12 and STEM education, nutrition and disease prevention, learning and technology, human environments and pilots and aerospace safety.

College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology

The biggest of its kind in the state, the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology is nationally recognized for its academic programs. Its cutting-edge facilities include the brand new Endeavor Lab where students learn to practice and apply theory.

Spears School of Business

Students of the Spears School of Business are given a tailored education for professional success. The new Business Building features a stock trading floor complete with an electronic ticker displaying the day's market trends.

Honors College

Department structure

Department structure

A top tier institution, OSU has five academic colleges, a veterinary school and an osteopathic medical school. It offers over 200 undergraduate programs, 79 master's and 45 doctoral programs both on-campus and online.

Ferguson College of Agriculture

Hands-on learning which provides research opportunities across a variety of agricultural areas.

Several of its programs are professionally accredited including agricultural education, forestry, landscape architecture and landscape management.

College of Arts and Sciences

The largest and most diverse college, it has 24 academic departments and over 100 undergraduate and graduate programs. It focuses on the areas of arts, humanities, social sciences, maths and natural sciences. Preparing students for the workplace, the college also offers study abroad and internship opportunities.

College of Education and Human Sciences

This new college combines programs of education, health, aviation and human sciences. It offers over 100 programs and houses 22 centers, clinics and labs for practical learning.

College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology

The biggest college of its kind in the state, it teaches nationally recognized programs. Modern facilities in this college includes a Endeavor Lab where students can practice and apply classroom theory.

School of Global Studies and Partnerships

A strategic and administrative hub for the university's global engagement. Provides information, support, and development for international projects for OSU staff and students.

Spears School of Business

Boasts a range of centers and institutes, providing unique opportunities to work alongside faculty in a practical environment.

Its programs are accredited by the AACSB International, the highest standard for quality in business education. The school is also ranked in the top five per cent of global institutions offering business degrees. 94 per cent of its students are employed or in further study within three months of graduation.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

International students must meet the English requirements to study at OSU. They will need a TOEFL score of iBT: 61+ or IELTS score of 5.5+ or equivalent. Students are also required to have a high school GPA of 3.0+, based on a 4.0 scale. For a successful application to study at OSU, all new international students must submit the correct documents to the university. The required documents are as follows:

  • Completed online application
  • Copy of the identification page in your passport
  • English proficiency test scores – iBT TOEFL 61+ or IELTS 5.5+
  • Official high school transcripts (average GPA 3.0 and above)
  • College transcript from any institution attended (if the student has earned college-level credit)
  • Financial guarantee document

All transcripts have to be in the original language and also translated into English.

Students must pay the USD 90 application fee before they can be admitted to study at OSU.

Each program at Oklahoma State has unique entry requirements.

Because its courses are taught in English, international applicants need to meet specific English language proficiency requirements. The university accepts iBT TOEFL and IELTS tests, with the following minimum scores:

  • iBT TOEFL – 61 or higher
  • IELTS - 5.5 or higher

As well as these test scores, international students will be required to submit the following as part of their application to OSU:

  • USD 90 application fee
  • College transcript from any institution (if college credit has been achieved)
  • Completed online application

  • Official high school transcripts with GPA minimum average of 3.0 (or equivalent)

Facilities

OSU is dedicated to supplying the best experience for its students, and therefore provides many services to ensure that each student is looked after. Facilities offer services such as physical and mental health and wellbeing, accessibility services, multicultural affairs, library and campus safety. The Career Services team is on hand to assist students with their professional aspirations, providing one-on-one sessions, career fairs, interview training, and much more.

There are accommodation options to suit all students at OSU. This includes suites, apartments and community-style living-learning accommodation where students are placed with others who have the same interests or are studying the same subject. Freshmen are required to live in residence halls and tend to perform better academically than those who live off-campus. Freshmen must also purchase a meal plan, choosing from several available options. There are 30 different campus dining spots where the meal plan can be used.

OSU offers more than 500 diverse clubs and organizations on campus which everyone can get involved in. With something to suit all interests, students can choose to spend their spare time participating in activities from arts to fitness, and education to culture.

Oklahoma State has several libraries on campus, including subject-specific branches. This includes:

There are 31 residential halls on campus, and accommodation options include halls, suites, deluxe suites and apartments. Students can select to live with peers on the same course or with similar interests.

Outside of lectures, students have over 500 clubs and organizations across an extensive range of interests and topics to choose from, including over 35 sports clubs.

There are 30 dining options on campus, with a range of cuisines available on a flexible meal plan. Eateries include cafeterias, convenience stores, franchises, and restaurants which cater for a variety of dietary requirements.

The university has been listed amongst 26 national universities for its high-quality fitness facilities, as well as medical and mental health services (Greatist.com). Its Colvin Recreation Center has recently undergone a USD 20 million investment and boasts 240,000 sq. feet of recreational facilities. This includes:

  • 10 basketball courts
  • Two cardio theater rooms
  • Two dance studios
  • Indoor track
  • Three multi-purpose fitness rooms
  • Putting green and two golf simulators
  • Eight racket ball courts
  • Rock climbing wall
  • Weight areas

Further health and wellbeing facilities can be found at the Seretean Wellness Center. This boasts a full kitchen for cooking classes, personal training sessions, massage therapy rooms, group fitness rooms, cardio rooms, counselling rooms, as well as a training and testing center.

The Department of Wellness also provides high-quality facilities including fitness centers, game rooms and a sand volleyball court.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

International students at OSU can expect to pay approximately USD 44,000 per year in direct expenses, such as tuition fees, accommodation, academic supplies and health insurance. This will vary depending on the student and year of entry.

There are lots of funding opportunities and support available to help students who require it. Upon successful admission to the university, each student will automatically be eligible for a number of scholarships. The International Achievement Freshman Scholarship and International Transfer Achievement Scholarship are based on English language test scores, SAT scores and GPA scores, and award a partial tuition waiver.

The Alumni Legacy Scholarship is based on whether a parent or grandparent graduated from OSU and also awards a partial tuition waiver. Students are required to submit a form to be eligible for this scholarship.

Tuition costs and general fees at Oklahoma State are 69 per cent of the national average for land-grant institutions, and cost of attendance is 78 per cent of the national average. Since 2000, the university has been consistently named in Kiplinger's personal finance list for best college value.

The range of scholarships and funding provided by the university further help to make it an affordable institution for students to attend. Almost 50 per cent of its students graduate with no debt, with the average debt being USD 22,591, which is below the national average.

International students are eligible for a range of scholarships, varying between USD 4,000 – 10,000 per academic year. No additional application for scholarships is required, as international students are automatically considered when they apply for admission to OSU.

Scholarships provided by the university include the International Achievement Freshman Scholarship and International Transfer Achievement Scholarship. Both are based on English language test scores, SAT scores and GPA scores, and award recipients with a partial tuition fee waiver.
