創意藝術大學

United Kingdom
Overview

Overview

The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) is a specialist institution that focuses on offering the finest creative, business and technology courses possible. It is a university that believes that creativity is what makes global communities vibrant and human, and so looks to develop and nurture that creative mindset in every student.

There are three main campuses based across Surrey and Kent in the south of England, along with Maidstone Television Studios and an Institute for Creative Innovation in Xiamen, China. Each campus is home to the latest facilities and outstanding teaching environments designed to help students reach their full potential.

Students are encouraged to discover their own personal style, and not just follow a cookie-cutter style education. This helps students to learn how they can use their own individual talents to shape their future and find their dream creative careers.

As well as providing an outstanding education through its faculty and resources, the university also has extensive support services aimed at getting students all the help they need throughout their time at UCA. This includes career guidance, budgeting advice, and counselling if needed. Students who attend UCA will benefit from a happy environment to fully develop and improve upon their creative talents.

The university is diverse and modern, with a large international student community. Students from international backgrounds are supported in settling into UK culture and education styles, with dedicated support available including scholarship and funding advice.

What's New

What's New

UCA is a contemporary and progressive university in more ways than one. Not only does it welcome students from diverse backgrounds, but it is constantly innovating to provide students with new facilities and new experiences.

These include new courses. As specialists in the creative arts, business and technology fields the university regularly reviews the courses offered and makes new additions. For 2022, the newest courses offered to students at undergraduate level include Art History, Theory & Contemporary Culture Comic & Concept Art and Virtual & Augmented Reality.

The university also continues to acquire new funding to push existing study programs to new heights. In December 2021 UCA announced it has secured GBP 2 million in funding to invest in the new School of Games and Creative Technology at the Farnham campus.

The university often shares exciting stories of alumni that have gone on to major success in their chosen field, or who have gained international renown for other reasons. One recent example is Rose Ayling-Ellis, who gained a First in her BA (Hons) Fashion Design degree in 2016 and then less than six years later has won BBC's Strictly Come Dancing TV competition.

Teaching quality

Teaching quality

In order to provide the best quality in creative education, UCA works with the best experts in each respective field, with many having already enjoyed highly successful careers in their chosen field. Courses are tailored to provide a great mix of hands-on practical learning and theory, weaving career strategy throughout the degree so that students are fully prepared to step into their field of work upon completion of their studies.

Every course at UCA is carefully monitored and refined over time to ensure students have the best experience, and some have been highlighted for their achievements. The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide ranks the university as number one for teaching quality of their courses in communications & media and in business and management, while architecture courses are ranked third.

As well as outstanding faculty, the university also has excellent facilities to ensure the teaching quality is high across every subject, with every essential resource provided.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

The courses at UCA are extremely popular and not everyone who wishes to study at the university can be accepted. As such, every course has specific entry requirements that students must fulfil in order to qualify. In the UK, these will usually take the form of completed A-levels or equivalent diplomas, often in related subjects to the chosen course by the student.

International students can learn more about equivalent qualifications on the university's website. Around a quarter of the students at the university are international, demonstrating how accepting and diverse the university is. Students can learn more about the level of education they require from their home country in order to be able to apply.

As UCA is a creative university, a lot of the degrees don't just rely on qualifications for acceptance criteria. Students may be asked to provide a portfolio of their work, or attend an interview or an audition for a place on their course. Details of specific entry requirements are available on the website and students will be advised on what they need to fulfil when they apply.

Facilities

Facilities

UCA is all about helping students to achieve their full creative potential, and while much of this is down to the outstanding teaching, the extensive facilities and resources available also play a huge part. Students are able to learn and express themselves using the latest tools and equipment, preparing them for a career working with state-of-the-art technologies and techniques.

The Canterbury campus is home to a large machine workshop with a range of hand tools and machinery, a Digital Fabrication Lab, sculpture studios, a Print Bureau, printmaking studios, three digital media suites, a photography studio, an animation suite and more.

The Epsom campus is where a lot of the more traditional learning is undertaken, with a range of learning environments including a 250-seater auditorium. There are extensive fashion and print studios, a sound studio and woodworking studios among the facilities available.

Farnham is where you'll find a wide range of facilities. Just some of those available include a newly established jewellery workshop, various film soundstages, a dedicated Games Art IT studio with VR testing area, and a fully-equipped Film and Media Centre.

Finally, the Rochester campus has various studios and labs including a CAM facility featuring the latest 3D state-of-the-art Gerber software, photographic studios, darkrooms for industry standard film processing and extensive design, pattern and sewing production studios.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

The university has a range of scholarships and fee discounts available to help students manage the cost of their studies. Some of these are funded by the university but many are also funded by donors including alumni of the university.

The criteria for scholarships will vary, with some open to all applicants and others only available to students from selected backgrounds or on specific courses. Selection criteria for those awarded the financial grants will sometimes be based on academic performance, whilst others will be provided to those most in financial need.

International students are also able to take advantage of these scholarships, with all courses eligible except for pre-sessional English. For the 2021/22 academic year, there were 300 scholarships offered to international students that discounted tuition fees by up to GBP 6,000. Full details of the financial awards available and the qualifying criteria are available on the university's website.
