THE World ranking

Incorporated in 1959, York originally consisted of a residential college (Glendon), an evening college for part-time students from all cultures and socio-economic circumstances (Atkinson) and a large, urban campus with access to Toronto?s main traffic arteries (Keele). This set York as a key player among universities in Ontario.

Today, York is a leading teaching and research university and a force for positive change. Home to one of the largest and most diverse student bodies, over 53,000 students from 178 countries are preparing for career and life success, and over 300,000 alumni span the globe. Recognized as a leader by the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, and first place in global joint research publications for universities in Ontario, York tackles challenges that matter most. With over 9,500 diverse experiential programs, partnerships and community placements, York provides students with opportunities that lead to successful careers and a better future for all.

York?s unique combination of learning opportunities across wide ranging disciplines provides students with diverse and relevant viewpoints to open their minds and broaden their thinking, skills and interests, unlocking their potential for broad career opportunities, expected and otherwise. Among the finest anywhere, it?s faculties introduce students to a broad perspective of the world that results in original thought and theory. The flexible cross discipline programming, innovative course design and diverse experiential learning provides students with an amazing variety of academic opportunities.

At York, campuses are alive with the vibrancy of Canada?s largest and most exciting city. They are a welcoming and inclusive community that values diversity and respectful and open dialogue. United by a strong sense of purpose and long-standing commitment to public good, advancing research with social, economic, and global impact through research, and experiential education.

Glendon is the bilingual leader in research and teaching in Toronto, as well as the founding campus of York University. Established in 1966, Glendon is well known for its personalized student experience thanks to its small class sizes and access to its internationally-recognized faculty members. It also offers exclusive international study and exchange programs, and houses innovation, entrepreneurship and experiential learning hubs.

The self-contained campus over 500 acres boasts a mix of natural landscapes and modern facilities such as the Bergeron Centre of Engineering Excellence, renowned performance arts facilities, two state-of-the-art TTC subway stations and the Observatory, home to the largest telescope on a Canadian university campus.

Coming Fall 2023, York University?s bold dream becomes an exciting reality. Located in the heart of Markham, the new campus will accommodate up to 4,200 students in Phase 1, with the flexibility to respond to future growth demands.
