Canada decides to double its immigrant intake by 2025

Canadian government planned this step due to problems that erupted in the economic sector of the country. There’s a critical shortage of labour, and thus job openings than job seekers. To address this issue, Canada is welcoming a huge number of immigrants. Talking to the Canadian press, Fraser also highlighted that, “There were a million jobs available in the Canadian economy at a time when immigration already accounts for nearly all of our labour force growth.”

He also pointed out that Canada’s labour force is ageing, and only fewer workers are there who support retired people and also work for public services such as schools and hospitals. The main reason is to boost the economy. Fraser also said, “We cannot maximize our economic potential if we don't embrace immigration.”

The government is expecting the arrival of 465,000 immigrants in 2023 and increasing to 500,000 immigrants in 2025 . They are also envisioning that the new arrivals will roughly fill 1 million jobs that are empty currently in various sectors of the economy. The immigration department informed that 405,000 permanent residents entered the country last year. Fraser also added that the plan would reduce the pressure on the scarce labour force in Canada . They can enable the construction of more homes by addressing the shortage of trades people.

They will also ensure the easy transition of the new immigrants into local communities by asking them to shift to areas that have the capacity for newcomers and increase federal support and settlement services.
