Computer science is basically the study of computer technology, both hardware and software. However, this definition is nowhere near descriptive of the full range of sub-disciplines. - Determine the focus of the computer science degree (e.g. the field of science, technology or humanities) and choose a school whose program fits this goal.
- Look at the number of awards, scholarships and fellowships the school has given and received in the past.
- Check out the faculty that is employed for teaching the subjects, lookout for whether a university has well known alumni as well.
- Choose a school that has numerous research opportunities for students in various aspects of computer science, such as artificial intelligence, graphics, theory, databases and networks.
- Consider the location and neighborhood as well and see which would suit you better.
The specific requirements to study computer science in US will vary with each university and course level, but a few basic requirements are:
- Proof of relevant academic qualifications
- Acceptable scores of an English Language Proficiency Test
- Research papers (in case of a doctorate degree)
