University of Arkansas
The University of Arkansas is one of the nation’s top public research universities. Founded in 1871 as a land-grant institution, the University of Arkansas is the flagship of the University of Arkansas System. Its 27,000 students represent all 50 states and more than 120 countries.
The University of Arkansas comprises 10 colleges and schools and offers more than 200 academic programs, many among the nation’s best. Students can choose from 70 bachelor's programs and dozens of master's and doctoral programs. The Carnegie Foundation classifies the U of A among only 2.7 percent of universities in America that have the highest level of research activity.
More than two million volumes of books fill the five campus libraries. Librarians specialized in every major field of study provide one-on-one assistance with class work and major writing projects. More than 200 databases and thousands of electronic journals are accessible from anywhere with a University ID. Librarians onsite assist in locating and using library resources, or students may send questions by email, phone, or 24/7 chat.
Life beyond the classroom means joining friends at campus events, volunteering to help others and ending day with a swim or workout at the gym. Students can build campus culture on a grassroots level with more than 380 registered student organizations, from cultural and religious to professional and special interests. If it's all Greek, connect with the university's 34 fraternities and sororities, with 6,800 members and a rich history of campus and community involvement.
University Recreation provides a wide array of recreational facilities and opportunities on campus. UREC even has a one-stop shop for exploring some of the nation's best outdoor amenities and most spectacular hiking trails – all within a short drive from campus. The 225,000 sq. ft. Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER) building is the largest recreation facility in the area. In addition to the HPER building, the university community has access to a new state-of-the-art fitness center located in the Arkansas Union.
The student health facility on campus boasts a medical center, a women's clinic, immunization and allergy treatment, psychological services and other resources to keep students focused on success. The campus recreation facilities provide an Olympic-sized swimming pool, fitness rooms, bike repair, a rock-climbing wall, racquetball courts and outdoor equipment rental.
The picturesque campus is located in Fayetteville in the hilly northwest corner of Arkansas and includes two arboreta overlooking the Ozark Mountains. Fayetteville is routinely considered among the country’s finest college towns, and the surrounding Northwest Arkansas region is regularly ranked one of the best places to live in the U.S.
