Overview

The University of Hartford (UHart) is a private university located in West Hartford, Connecticut, USA, which offers a comprehensive selection of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses. Hartford is one of the oldest cities in the USA, located between New York City and Boston, around a 2-hour journey from each.

The university sits within a huge 350-acre landscaped site, with open green spaces and wide tree-lined avenues. The Park River runs through the middle of the campus, separating the academic section from the residential area. There are around 6,000 enrolled students at the university, representing 49 states and over 44 countries globally.

The university is organized into seven academic faculties, offering over 100 different undergraduate degree courses and 64 graduate programs, spanning a wide range of subject areas from business, science and engineering to fine art, music and languages. Students benefit from small class sizes, with an average staff to student ratio of 1:8 allowing plenty of contact time with tutors and a more personalized approach towards learning. Individual and group tuition is encouraged across many courses, and students engage in a multitude of working methods from research to presentation and assignment-based learning.

Facilities include a comprehensive main library, with hundreds of thousands of publications and study resources, as well as a state-of-the-art performing arts center and fully equipped sports facility. The campus also contains cafes with a variety of healthy eating options, a convenience store and even a post office.

The University of Hartford is a progressive and outward looking institution, whose alumni have gone on to achieve great things in the world. Graduates include a president of El Salvador, executives at ESPN and Stanley Black & Decker, accomplished performers and award-winning theatre producers, radio hosts and even NASA astronauts.

New Facilities for Engineering Research and Health Professions

The Francis X. and Nancy Hursey Center for Advanced Engineering and Health Professions is a recently opened state-of-the-art facility which provides many new classrooms and laboratories dedicated to healthcare and diagnostics. The building features a fully equipped health simulation suite, with spaces designed for human performance, strength and conditioning, motion analysis, health and physical assessment, as well as functional and physical rehabilitation.

Technical and engineering laboratories will prepare students for competitive careers in current and emerging industries, with professional grade equipment and resources in fields such as robotics, cybersecurity and 3D printing. The building contains spaces for design, fabrication, and research, cultivating a busy hub of hands-on teaching and impactful learning.

New Degree Programmes

Accelerated Degree Program (BS Business 3 years + MBA/MSAT 1 year)

Students of the new Bachelor of Science programme may choose from one of seven undergraduate majors and study an accelerated schedule which leads to course completion in just three years. After finishing the bachelor's degree, students may immediately progress into either the full-time MBA or an MS in Accounting and Taxation.

Enrolled students will be assigned a dedicated academic advisor to provide support and guidance throughout the duration of the course, and will also join a diverse and dynamic learning community with other students in the 3+1 Accelerated Business Program.

Bachelor of Science, Aerospace Engineering

This pioneering STEM-designated aerospace engineering course is the only program of its kind in Connecticut and provides students with a comprehensive education in aerospace engineering and design. The course offers a high degree of technical training, and access to equipment and facilities in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Acoustical Engineering.

College of Arts and Sciences

This college offers 23 undergraduate majors, seven graduate programs, and multiple interdisciplinary offerings, making it the largest of the seven schools and colleges. Students can study everything from biology and communication to cinema and psychology.

Barney School of Business

Recognized among the top 5 percent of business schools worldwide (AACSB accredited), Barney offers 7 undergraduate programs, 9 undergraduate minors, 4 graduate programs, 4 dual-degree graduate programs, and 11 postgraduate certificate programs, from accounting to business analytics.

College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP)

At ENHP, students will earn a career-relevant degree in a collaborative environment and participate in real-world learning and research alongside faculty mentors. ENHP maintains relationships with prominent local, national, and international partners.

College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA)

Recognized by Business Insider as one of the nation's top 14 engineering schools when it comes to mid-career salary earnings, CETA's professionally accredited programs attract students from around the world.

The Hartt School

The Hartt School is a comprehensive performing arts conservatory, offering innovative undergraduate degree programs in music, dance, and theatre and graduate degree programs in music. Its famous faculty, who perform and teach around the world, mentor students in their pursuit of excellence.

Hartford Art School

Students at the Hartford Art School can count on lots of personal attention from professional artists, designers, and historians who teach in eight diverse studio areas.

Hillyer College

CETA School

As the largest school at the University of Hartford, the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA) has numerous freshly renovated spaces containing equipment that mirrors industry technology. The Hursey Center is a brand new 60,000-square-foot academic facility with educational areas like the Pratt & Whitney Turbomachinery Lab, Makerspace, and High-Bay Structural Engineering Lab. These classrooms immerse students in the field and facilitate a hands-on approach to learning.

There are various accredited undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs that help strengthen technical excellence and application of theory. The curriculum is always evolving with the addition of new programs. Accomplished faculty and staff are internationally recognized, bringing worldwide industry connections to the university. Small class sizes encourage interpersonal communication between faculty and students. As a result, every student can network and build professional relationships with the campus community. Living on Campus

Living on campus is an important part of student life, and around 85 percent of the undergraduate population lives on campus. First-year students at the university have two housing options:

Hawk Hall

Hawk Hall has double rooms with bathroom facilities and study lounges in the hallway. Rooms have cable TV and high-speed internet connections. Placement is organized so that students will live with their peers who have similar interests or are taking the same courses.

A through D Complexes

A through D Complexes are standard suite-style residence halls for first-year students with double rooms, featuring a bathroom and study facilities within the suite. Rooms are also equipped with cable TV and high-speed internet connections. Each complex has laundry facilities, study lounges, and air-conditioning.

Graduate Housing

UHart offers newly renovated, on-campus Graduate student housing options in a modern, furnished townhouse complex. Apartments feature fully renovated bedrooms, bathrooms, and shared living spaces, with all utilities included in the rent. There is a free laundry service and use of the university sports center is included.

Student support & safety

Student support & safety

The Center for Student Success (CSS) provides all undergraduate and graduate students with the resources and support necessary for a successful transition to college. Services include academic tutoring, time management, personal guidance and regular check-ins.

The International Center helps international students with everything from visas and travel plans to connecting them to clubs and organizations.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides a free and confidential service, available to full-time undergraduate and graduate students. There are various psychological services and short-term counseling options available, including individual, group, and couples counseling. CAPS counselors are dedicated to ensuring the mental health and wellbeing of the UHart community, and can refer students to off-campus specialists and health providers.

All students have access to a range of career services and resources to provide support at all stages of the search of employment. One-to-one sessions with a career advisor are available as well as a huge range of industry-relevant online resources.

Student safety

The Department of Public Safety provides the university community with a secure environment in which students can learn, live, work, and grow. It is in full operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. During the academic year, students can contribute to the department's activities.

The Public Safety headquarters are located on the northeast side of campus in a complex shared with the university's facilities department.

The University of Hartford is divided into districts that are patrolled by safety officers on foot, on bicycles and in vehicles. Officers are approachable and highly trained, and able to help with all issues regarding personal safety and property. They are required to be highly visible and identifiable across campus, maintaining a secure and reassuring presence.
