University of Hull
The University of Hull has been changing the way people think for 90 years. The University of Hull was founded in 1927 – originally as University College Hull. It opened for business with 39 students and 14 ‘one-man’ departments. It has come a long way since then. The University now has more than 16,000 students and around 2,500 employees, including more than 1,000 academic staff. It’s motto, Lampada Ferens, translates as ‘carrying the light of learning’, and over the years, It has shared that light with thousands of people from across the world. As England’s 14th-oldest university, it has a proud heritage of academic excellence, and a history of creating and inspiring life-changing research. And it has no plans to stop helping to build a better world.
The University of Hull is committed to providing the students with top-class facilities and an ideal environment in which to live and learn. The University has particular research expertise in social justice, environmental technologies and maritime history. It’s work in healthcare, 3D visualization and nanotechnology is also widely respected. In research terms, it is perhaps best known for developing liquid-crystal technology. Many of it’s courses offer additional opportunities, such as a professional year in industry, structured work placements, or a year studying or working abroad. It will teach the students the skills that employers really value – giving students a head start on their career journey.
Situated in the leafy suburb of Newland, just two miles from the city centre, it’s campus is one of the most attractive academic sites in the country. But it’s campus is more than the beautiful buildings and world-class facilities. What really makes it so brilliant is the talent that comes together here. But an environment designed to nurture and promote learning certainly helps.. There are more than 1,100 open-access computers and 1,600 study spaces around the University for students to use. With it’s free high speed WiFi network it turns the entire campus into a virtual classroom. That’s a lot of wireless benefitting every hall, house and flat run by the University.
