The University of New Mexico was founded in 1889 as New Mexico’s flagship institution. It is a place where cutting edge research and creative endeavours flourish. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, the University represents a cross section of cultures and backgrounds. It boasts an outstanding faculty that includes a Nobel Laureate, two MacArthur Fellows, 35 Fulbright scholars and several members of national academies.
The University of New Mexico offers a wide variety of academic programs through twelve Colleges and Schools. These academic options include more than 215 degree and certificate programs, including 94 baccalaureate, 71 masters and 37 doctoral degrees. It offers bachelor and graduate degree completion programs throughout the state via Extended Learning and has education centres located at the four branch campus locations as well as in Santa Fe, Farmington, and at Kirtland Air Force Base.
The University of New Mexico now occupies nearly 800 acres near old Route 66 in the heart of Albuquerque, a metropolitan area of more than 500,000 people. From the magnificent mesas to the west, past the banks of the historic Rio Grande to the Sandia Mountains to the east, Albuquerque is a blend of culture and cuisine, styles and stories, people, pursuits and panoramas.
