Entry requirements

Entry requirements

  • The SAT or ACT is not required for admission.
  • Students must submit final high school transcripts or national exam reports.
  • Freshman admission requires high school grades equivalent of GPA 2.5/4.0.
  • For those who desire to submit SAT or ACT to apply for admission, the required score is SAT 1,060 with minimum 490 on part score or ACT 21 with minimum 18 on part score.
  • Students who have studied at a college or university are considered transfer students.
  • Student who have completed less than 24 credit hours must also submit their high school transcripts.
  • Required GPA for transfer admission
  1. Engineering, Fine Arts, Liberal Arts & Sciences majors: minimum GPA 2.0
  2. Business majors: minimum GPA 2.25
  3. Education (Applied Studies) majors: minimum GPA 2.5
  4. Health Professions majors: minimum GPA 2.5-3.0
  1. International students are not required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score when applying for admission.
  2. Undergraduate applicants may be granted conditional admission if they meet our academic requirements for admission.
  3. We accept TOEFL iBT 72, IELTS 6.0, and Duolingo English Test 100 for proof of English proficiency.
  4. Students who do not meet our English requirement have the options to enroll full time in Intensive English Language Center before starting their degree program.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

Global Selection Scholarship

  • Automatically awarded to eligible students.
  • Automatically renewed until the end of the program.
  • Available for all new international students, both freshman and transfer students.
  • Undergraduate applicants with GPA of 3.0 or its international equivalent will be awarded the Global Select Scholarship that reduces 36% of tuition fee every semester (approximately US$4,800 per year).

Other Scholarship Opportunities

  • After attending Wichita State University for one year, international students may apply for other merit-based scholarships.
  • Scholarship awards for current students usually range from US$500 to US$2,500 per year.

Working on Campus

  • International students may apply for on-campus jobs and work up to 20 hours per week.
  • By working 20 hours per week, students may earn US$500-$600 per month.
  • There are over 250 departments and offices on campus that hire student workers.

Research Facilities - With more than 30 renowned centers and institutes, state-of-the-art labs, and research facilities, Wichita State's research and academic capacity continues to elevate and expand.

New Engineering Building - The John Bardo Center is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that can turn ideas into finalized products, ready to come to market. Facilities include a 3D print center, business incubator and accelerator spaces. The center also has a technology transfer office to advise on issues such as patents and marketing.

Student Health Services offers a variety of health services, such as physician consultations and vaccinations, to Wichita State students at little to no cost. All staff members are professionally trained to assist students with health-related issues.

Campus Housing – The newly built residence halls, Shocker Hall, The Suites, and The Flats, are complete communities with lounges, study rooms, game rooms, laundry, and plenty of places to hang out. Dining options on campus provide both American and international cuisine with Halal and vegetarian options to accommodate different dietary preferences.

Student safety

Student safety

  • Wichita is a safe and friendly city and Wichita State is one of the safest universities of its size in the U.S.
  • The University Police Department offers a 24/7 watch on campus. Trained officers carry out patrols and traffic control, as well as providing safety escorts and auto assistance in the event of keys locked inside cars and dead car batteries.
  • There are almost 40 emergency call boxes placed around campus and residence hall grounds that connect callers instantly with the University Police Department dispatcher in the event of an emergency.
  • Within blocks of campus is the Wichita Fire Department, which is directly connected to the University Police Department's communications system.
  • All residence halls require security access for entrance. Visitors without a key card are not able to enter the building or use the elevators.
