M College

Canada
Overview

Overview

Located in the LaSalle borough on the island of Montreal, M College of Canada was founded in 2020 on the principle that education can change the world.

All four programs at M College have been designed to include an internship as part of the course. This gives students real-life work experience within their field of study, making them stand out to potential future employers. The college also runs networking events and provides other industry opportunities which are specifically designed to boost career prospects.

Students from all over the world are invited to study at M College. International students have the option to study for academic programs that lead to attestation of collegial studies (AEC). Classes are taught in either English or French, while other services can be accessed in a variety of languages including Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, Farsi, Italian, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.

Courses last for two years (four semesters), but three of the courses can be fast-tracked and completed in one year.

For international students from non-English or non-French speaking countries, the college works with language partner schools to offer a dedicated language program. The completion of a language program fulfils M College's language requirements, so there is no need for a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Students will also gain a recognized B2-level certificate upon completion of a language course.

Not only is the college designed to be a great place to study, but also a great place to live. It is connected to a comprehensive public transit system, so students can enjoy the best Montreal has to offer. The city was rated as the best student city in 2017, and is generally a safe place to live, with a safety index of 81 percent.

What's new

What's new

M College was only founded in January 2020, so everything about the institution is still new.

Like all educational institutions, M College has been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Its team of teachers, administrators and staff have worked hard to develop an online platform for learning which meets the current requirements for flexibility while still ensuring a high quality of learning.

As restrictions ease, and policies change, M College will be following the advice and guidelines of governmental health agencies.

The MCERB (M College of Canada Emergency Response Benefit) has also launched to support students who are facing financial difficulties because of the pandemic.

International students may currently require special permission to travel to Canada. A travel support letter is issued by a Designated Learning Institute (DLI) to show the border authorities that it is necessary to travel to Canada to study. International students are currently required to quarantine for 14 days on arrival, during which time accommodation and meals will be provided by M College.

Class sizes are kept small to ensure the highest-quality teaching, while the facilities include modern technology and state-of-the-art equipment. Each of its courses has been designed to give students a fantastic entry into the world of work. Each program includes a mandatory internship, and to help students find an appropriate placement, a dedicated internship coordinator is on hand.

With internships, students can expect to gain valuable real-world experience, as well as useful networking opportunities and an insight into the community which they will hopefully enter into in the future.

M College adopts a ''student-first'' mandate, which is designed to give each student a sense of belonging via dynamic student life, placement services and continuous support.

Department structure

Department structure

Programs at M College have been developed specifically with students' career progression mind. They are designed to equip adult learners with both the knowledge and the skillset to succeed in a competitive job market.

Each of the four programs offered by M College leads to an Attestation of collegial studies (AEC). These are:

  • Business Management
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Multimedia Integration Techniques
  • Project Management (Graphic Communication)

Every program is tailored to meet the demands of jobs where skilled graduates are a necessity. Each course focuses on specific industry needs, as well as helping international students integrate into Canadian life.

Some of the courses have two options available. Students can choose to complete a program within two years, with two days a week of scheduled study. Alternatively, the fast-track option means they can complete studies within one year, by attending scheduled classes three days a week.

Language pathway programs

For students who do not have French or English as a native language, pathway programs are available via a partner college. By completing this program, students will qualify for higher-level study at M College.

Student support

Student support

With its commitment to diversity and inclusion, M College is dedicated to providing a good experience for international students.

This starts right from the beginning, with services including free pickup from the airport where students are taken to their accommodation. Due to the pandemic, international arrivals are currently required to quarantine, during which time M College will provide free housing and meals.

Orientation sessions take place for a week and are usually held before classes start. During this time, students can learn about the college, obtain school identification, fill out any necessary forms and documents, as well as meeting staff and classmates. Information about the local area, including travel options, will also be included. The ethos behind orientation week is to build social networks and integrate students into the M College community.

The college also holds regular Career Days. Held roughly three times a year, it is an opportunity for companies and employers to meet students and recent graduates.
