Since opening its doors as the Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy in 1914, University of Texas El Paso has enabled generations of students to pursue their goals through higher education in one of the largest national communities in the world. It has redefined public higher education not only in Texas, but across the nation as it begins its second century of service to the people of the Paso Del Norte region and reaffirms its commitment to an access and excellence mission. Over the past century, the University’s enrolment has grown from 27 mining students to more than 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and that number continues to increase each year.
The university offers a broad array of degree programs, 70 bachelors, 76 masters and 20 doctoral degrees taught by outstanding faculty who have been recognized for their commitment to student success. It’s outstanding record of receiving extremely competitive grant awards reflects the quality of UTEP’s faculty and the sustained commitment to excellence while also maintaining an academic environment dedicated to addressing the educational needs of students.
UTEP is situated in the heart of El Paso, a vibrant and urban Texas City. El Paso is the 22nd largest city in the nation, 6th largest in Texas and is the 2nd safest city in the nation.
