Australia is home to world-class universities and colleges, and many of them offer a wide range of scholarships to international students every year to help them finance their studies in Australia. These scholarships are open to meritorious international students, and they can be partial or fully paid scholarships, depending on the criteria, course and the institution offering them.

What are the eligibility criteria to apply for scholarships in Australia?

The most important criterion for most scholarships is a good academic score, however, it also depends on factors such as your chosen destination, subject and level. In some scholarships, factors like extracurricular activities, and volunteering can also be used to advantage. Keep in mind that every scholarship has its own eligibility criteria. In some, a mere application may suffice, while for others you may have to fulfil several other conditions. For instance, in research centric programs, you may have to submit written assignments. Do not hesitate to contact the university admission centre if you have any doubts.

Scholarships value: How much money is available?

The amount of money available and the type of award varies between institutions. Certain research programs may provide up to 100% of the tuition fee besides covering a part of your living expenditures. You may experience higher competition when you apply for government scholarships in comparison to the university scholarships. So, we suggest you start with the procedure about 8-12 months before your preferred intake begins. If you get stuck anywhere, IDP counsellors will be more than happy to guide you through.

What are the documents required to apply for scholarships in Australia?

When you’re applying for a scholarship, you have to check the granting institution’s website to make sure you provide all the needed documents. However, there are common documents that most of the institutions require from scholarship applicants, such as:

Completed scholarship application form
Copy of your academic transcripts/diplomas
Copy of your passport/ID
Statement of purpose or letter of motivation
Recommendation letter
Test score (like SAT, ACT, GRE, GPA)
Proof of your language proficiency, like an IELTS test.

Some institutions may also require some additional documents, such as an essay and medical report.

Monash University	Monash International Merit Scholarship	31 scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Scholarship value: AUD 10,000 per annum
Monash University Malaysia	Monash High Achiever Award	Merit-based scholarship for international students enrolling at all courses at Monash Malaysia, except for Health & Medical Sciences. Scholarship value: RM5,000 each semester
The University of Adelaide	The University of Adelaide Scholarships	Students may receive from 15% - 50% reduction through different types of scholarships. Some of the scholarships are automatically awarded if the student is eligible, whereas for the others a separate application needs to be submitted.
Edith Cowan University	International Undergraduate Scholarship	The International Undergraduate Scholarship is offered to international students from selected countries who are applying for a bachelor’s degree at ECU. Scholarship value: 20% reduction in tuition fees for the duration of your course at ECU.
Edith Cowan University	International Masters Scholarship	The International Masters Scholarship is offered to international students from selected countries who successfully apply for a selected master’s degree at ECU. Scholarship value: 20% reduction in your tuition fees for the first year of your course at ECU.
The University of Melbourne	Melbourne International Undergraduate Scholarship	The merit-based scholarship is awarded to high achieving international students enrolling in an undergraduate program at UTS in Sydney. Scholarship total value: Up to $56,000
The University of Melbourne	Undergraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship	This scholarship is available to high achieving students undertaking graduate study at the University of Melbourne. Scholarship value: Between 25% and 100% off tuition fees for the duration of your course
University of Technology Sydney (UTS)	International Scholarship	After you receive an offer, fill out the scholarship application form. University will assess eligibility and funding amounts on a case by case basis Scholarship value: $10,000 towards first year of UTS tuition fees; paid in two equal instalments of $5,000 each
University of Technology Sydney (UTS)	Postgraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship	The merit-based scholarship is awarded to high achieving international students enrolling in a postgraduate coursework program at UTS in Sydney. Scholarship value: $5,000 towards the first session of UTS tuition fees
Macquarie University	Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship	The Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship is awarded to recognise academic excellence for international students. This highly competitive scholarship is based on academic merit and awarded to future students who are accepted into a Macquarie University Bachelor or Postgraduate Coursework Degree commencing in 2020. Scholarship value: Up to AUD $10,000 applied towards your tuition fee
Deakin University	Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship	Deakin recognises students with consistently high academic performance and the potential to make a leading contribution to the university and its communities. Successful students will be required to participate in the Vice-Chancellor’s Professional Excellence Program. Unsuccessful applicants of the Deakin Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship will automatically be considered for the Deakin International Scholarship. Scholarship value: 100% or 50% fee remission
Swinburne University	Swinburne Scholarships for international students	Swinburne offers a wide range for scholarships for international students. Some scholarships are merit-based while other are automatically awarded to students who meet the entry requirements of selected courses. Scholarships value: Up to 50% off your tuition fees
