Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) is a technology-focused university based in Chicago. It works in partnership with Universities USA, where it offers International Freshman Year (undergraduate) (IFY) and International Graduate Year (IGY) programs.

Programs are designed to prepare international students for degree-level study in the U.S. by developing their academic and English language skills. They can choose from programs that cover science, engineering, business, architecture, applied technology, human sciences, psychology, and design.

Illinois Tech was ranked 117th in the nation by the U.S. News & World Report in 2020. Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Undergraduate International Freshman Year

To be eligible for a place on the International Freshman Year (IFY) pathway program, students must have a minimum GPA score of 2.25 and a minimum TOEFL score of 65, or equivalent. No SAT score is required.

For direct entry, international students must have a minimum GPA score of 3.0, a minimum TOEFL score of 90, or equivalent. An SAT score and letter of recommendation is also required.

Graduate International Graduate Year

To be eligible for a place on the International Graduate Year (IGY) pathway program, students must have a minimum GPA score of 2.5, a minimum TOEFL score of 70, or equivalent. A GRE/GMAT score is not required.

For direct entry, international students must have a minimum GPA score of 3.0, a minimum TOEFL score of 90, or equivalent. A GRE/GMAT score and personal statement are also required.

Entry requirements will depend on the chosen program, so students are advised to check the specific details of the program they wish to study.

Undergraduate fees and funding

Undergraduate for both International Freshman Year and Direct Entry tuition fees at Illinois Institute of Technology are around USD 47,480 per annum.

There are some scholarships available, where eligible students can benefit from up to USD 15,000 per annum. This totals up to USD 60,000 over four years in scholarships.

Graduate fees and funding

International Graduate Year fees are USD 28,350 per annum. While Direct entry is USD 1,530 to USD 1,725 per credit, most programs are 30 credits.

There are some scholarships available. Eligible students can benefit from up to USD 4,000 per year, totalling to USD 8,000 towards their degree. There is also a housing scholarship available worth up to USD 4,000.

Elevate scholarships

Illinois Tech has a focus on practical, real-life learning, to ensure students graduate into career-ready professionals. Because of this it formed Elevate, a hub that connects students to experiential learning opportunities. To support students, Illinois Tech offers awards of up to USD 5,000 to eligible undergraduate and graduates for Elevate experiences.

Illinois Tech was created in 1940 by the merger of Armour Institute and Lewis Institute.
