Overview
The University of Aberdeen - founded in 1495 - is the fifth oldest university in the UK. Ranked in the top 1% of the world's universities, graduates from the Engineering and Technology departments earn the highest salaries in the UK, while 96.6% of graduates from all departments go on to find work within six months of leaving.
Facilities include the Olympic-standard Aberdeen Sports Village and an Aquatic Centre. There are also four libraries, including the University's main £57 million Sir Duncan Rice Library – home to 1 million books.
Aberdeen is the second most affordable student city in the UK. Rich in culture and history and surrounded by beautiful countryside and coastlines, there is plenty for students to do and see outside of the classroom. Attractions include Aberdeen Theatre, Aberdeen Art Gallery, and Union Square – the city's largest shopping centre.
Award-winning student clubs and societies have been ranked top in Scotland, and 5th in the UK, and range from the Yoga Society to the Ice Skating Society. The Students' Union building is spread over three floors, and includes shops, restaurants and bars.
The Careers Service is in place to support students with all aspects of finding employment after graduating, from CV writing to interview preparation. There is also help with finding housing, handling finances and disability support.
The University welcomes a diverse community of over 14,000 students from 120 nationalities. It runs an International Exchange Programme with partner universities in North America, Hong Kong and Japan. Students also the have chance to take part in Erasmus to spend some of their course in another country to learn about another culture.
