Michigan Technological University began as the Michigan Mining School in Houghton in 1885. It is a globally recognized technological university that educates students, advances knowledge, and innovates to improve the quality of life and to promote mutual respect and equity for all people within the state, the nation, and the global community. The seven Colleges and Schools develop, apply, and communicate science, engineering, technology, and mathematics in more than 120 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. It’s 40 master's degree programs and 27 PhD programs approach education and innovation that creates the future of the technological world. The university’s beautiful campus in Michigan's Upper Peninsula overlooks the Keweenaw Waterway and is just a few miles from Lake Superior.
