University of Alberta
The one-hundred-year history of the University of Alberta has been a century of vision, a vision borne out of the partnership of two ambitious men: Alexander Cameron Rutherford, the first Premier of Alberta, and Henry Marshall Tory, a McGill University professor who became the University of Alberta’s first president. Critics at the time dismissed their dream as impossible, or at best impractical, but the vision would become a reality. The passing of the University Act in 1906 by the new government of Alberta paved the way to the official opening of the University in 1908. The University of Alberta is a big, exciting place with large campuses, cutting-edge laboratories, and an interesting history.
UAlberta is a Top 5 Canadian university and one of the Top 100 in the world, home to more than 500 graduate programs, 200 undergraduate programs and 450 active student groups. The university is home to 18 faculties and dozens of research centres and institutes, across five campus locations. Many faculties and programs at UAlberta offer paid co-op programs or work experience placements - letting students obtain practical experience while they earn credit towards their degree. Participating in co-op work programs, work experience placements, or academic internships has been shown to make graduates more attractive to employers.
