Study in Canada
Over the decades, Canada has been in the top 5 list of countries that have attracted students from all across the globe, seeking admission into the best universities. Getting admission into any college or university in Canada requires an outstanding academic score, and a valid permission to study which can be justified by a Study Permit or Student Visa. Every student that would like to pursue their education in Canada must produce a Student permit. However, getting this visa is not as easy as it seems and requires proper documentation and verification. Before we move to the steps on how to apply for a student visa, here are the basic documents needed and the visa requirements in Canada.
- A Valid Passport;
- A letter of acceptance from the relevant university;
- Proof of financial support and funding;
- Photographs of student – Passport size;
- IME – Immigration Medical Examination;
- Language Test;
- Statement of purpose of your application;
- An active credit card;
- Other documents including any certificates, degrees and diplomas earned from any previous schools attended;
- IELTS, GMAT, GRE scores, statement of intent to move out of Canada after completion of course and detailed description on how you would fund your total expenses.
After you have assembled the above documents, it is now time to apply for your student visa. Here are the steps:
1. Check time duration of processing the Visa
This usually takes 3-4 weeks but sometimes the duration varies and needs to be checked up with the Canadian Consulate. The website provides an approximate figure and should not be taken as a guarantee.
2. Apply online or in person
There are 2 ways of applying for your student visa – one is using the online tool wherein you would need access to a camera and a scanner to help you with creating copies digitally to upload onto the site. A credit card in this case, is required for online payment. However applying in person is simple and requires you to download the application kit and guide and follow the steps mentioned. It contains all the necessary information on what you need to do in order to process your permit.
3. Fill a VFS Consent form
This form needs to be filled up with the necessary details and attached with the application form.
4. Payment of Processing fees
All fees including VFS global service charges must be paid in full at this point to allow the application to go through. The processing fee is not refunded to any student. Also, if you have a partner, spouse or family member escorting with you, and you are applying for a resident visa or even a student visa for them, you would need to make payment for their processing fees as well.
5. Submit your application with all documents
At this stage you need to visit the VFS office and hand over all necessary documents and Canada visa requirements along with your application. Pay the service charges that are applied, submit the completed application and get a receipt which would contain a tracking ID that you would need to use in order to track your application and its progress online.
6. Approval of Application
In case your application is successfully approved, you would be notified by the Canadian Government and they would request for your valid passport. Submit your passport and the letter received to the VFS office and you would be offered a temporary resident visa and introduction letter. On arrival at Canada, you would then be presented with your Student visa.
