Overview

Victoria University (VU) offers internationally recognised, world-class qualifications in Melbourne and Sydney, two of the world's most liveable cities. VU ranks among the world's top two per cent of universities according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021, has more than 100 years of experience, over 4,000 industry partnerships, and options for study in Australia or closer to international students' home countries.

What's new

Virtual open day

Students who didn't have the chance to attend VU's virtual open day in August can access course information on the open day hub. The VU open day hub will remain live until the end of the year, and students can explore VU's offerings and learn more about its successful block model.

VU's new vice-chancellor

VU has appointed its next vice-chancellor and president, Professor Adam Shoemaker, marking a new era for the university. Professor Shoemaker, the Vice-Chancellor and President of Southern Cross University since 2016, will join VU on the 14th of December, bringing years of experience from senior leadership roles at many Australian universities.

Block Model success

VU has replaced passive learning such as large, impersonal lectures with smaller group lectures and students taking up one subject at a time over a period of four weeks.

Since the award-winning VU Block Model was launched in 2018, international students are performing better with a pass rate of 93 per cent, among which 53 per cent of results is at distinction or above. The immersive class environment goes beyond academic results and helps students become independent and confident problem-solvers and learners, preparing them for their career.

VU was awarded the IEAA Excellence Award in 2018 for its Block Model of teaching and its First Year College that helps students transition into university successfully by the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA). It also awarded VU's Australia-first pedagogy for its innovation.

The Educator Hot List

Professor Vasso Apostolopoulos, VU's pro-chancellor of research partnerships and world-renowned immunologist and researcher, made it onto The Educator Higher Education 'Hot List' 2020. This list recognises 50 professionals, from professors, researchers, and principals to industry figures, for outstanding contributions to the community, academia, and the country.

Block Model teaching

At VU, teachers know students by name. Class sizes are small to ensure students get to know their classmates and teacher and become a working team. Dermal sciences and osteopathy students learn real-world skills at the university's student-run, public clinics.

Entry requirements

Undergraduate programs

Entry into undergraduate courses generally requires a completed secondary school qualification equivalent to an Australian year 12 certificate.

Postgraduate programs

Entry into postgraduate courses requires a completed undergraduate degree that is equivalent to a bachelor honour's degree, a bachelor's degree or a graduate diploma by Australian standards.

English language requirements

Entry into undergraduate or postgraduate degrees requires students to have completed any one of the following exams that tests their English language proficiency:

Undergraduate

  • IELTS (Academic module): Overall score of 6.0 (no band less than 6.0)
  • TOEFL Internet: Overall score of 67 with no section score less than:
    • Listening: 12
    • Speaking: 18
    • Reading: 15
    • Writing: 21
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score of 50-57 (no section score less than 50)
  • University of Cambridge - Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 169 and no individual band less than 169.
  • VU English - English for Academic Purposes (EAP) (Level 5): achieved
  • IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and CAE: These tests must be taken no more than two years prior to commencing the course.

Postgraduate

  • IELTS (academic module): Overall score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0)
  • TOEFL Internet: Test score of 79 with no section score less than:
    • Listening: 19

  • convenience store and rooftop garden

UniLodge Victoria University is located next to the university's Footscray Park campus. It's just a short walk from VU's Footscray Nicholson campus and the Footscray train station, which is a 12-minute trip to the centre of Melbourne and VU's city campuses. UniLodge features twin-share studio apartments from AUD 172 per week, as well as two and six-bedroom apartments. There is unlimited Wi-Fi and all utilities are included in the cost.

Scholarships

Scholarships

VU offers a range of scholarships and accepts students who have scholarships funded by the Australian or other governments.

Applications are not needed for VU scholarships- students will be assessed on submission of their application to study at VU, and the scholarships will be offered based on their academic results and the course they apply for.

VU International Excellence Scholarship

The VU International Excellence Scholarship recognises and rewards international student achievement. It is based on academic merit and requires students to have achieved results that are higher than VU's academic entrance requirements.

Study level: VET, undergraduate or postgraduate.

VU International VCE Scholarship

The International VCE Scholarship rewards and recognises international students in their Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

Study level: Bachelor's degree in any discipline.

VU College Diploma Merit Scholarship

The VU College Diploma Merit Scholarship recognises and rewards international student achievement in the first semester of study at VU.

Study level: higher education Diploma of Business (Enterprise), Information Technology or Engineering.

Australia Awards Scholarships

These are administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and offered by the Australian Government. These offer citizens of the Middle East, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa, the opportunity for full-time study at Australian education institutions at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These are inclusive of tuition fees, living allowance, flight charges, overseas student health cover and academic support.

Other scholarships

VU welcomes students with scholarships from their home government or organisations worldwide, including:

  • Ministry of Higher Education (Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia)
  • Ministry of Religious Affairs (Indonesia)

Victoria University is an accessible and friendly university. It is one of the largest and most culturally diverse institutions in Australia. The University achieved status in 1991, but their preceding institutions date back to 1916. Today, it has over 40,000 enrolled higher education, and vocational education and training students studying on their campuses.

The Victoria University has campuses in the heart of Melbourne city, and in Melbourne's cosmopolitan western suburbs and also campuses are easily accessible by public transport. It has four campuses among the gorgeous laneways and bustling arteries of Melbourne's central business district.
