As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold around the world, Deakin University understands that COVID-19 is causing a great deal of uncertainty and disruption for students wanting to study internationally.

The university reassures students that Deakin will continue to deliver world-class education through its Cloud Campus (online). The university has developed a transfer program for students to start their studies online at the Cloud Campus, and then transfer to one of its Australian campuses to continue their degree.

Many Deakin degrees are available for study online from trimester 2 (July) 2020.

Deakin has developed a dedicated website for students interested in online to on-campus program. Students are encouraged to visit the website and contact the university with any questions they have about studying online with Deakin.

Deakin ranked No.8 worldwide in first MOOC rankings

Recently, Deakin was ranked 8th worldwide and 1st in Australia in the world’s first ever university rankings to be based on the performance of open online courses. This is an excellent reflection of the world-class quality of Deakin's online learning options, its innovative learning environment and commitment to providing the best possible learning options to students.

Student support

Student support

Deakin believes in offering its students a meaningful learning experience. To achieve this, Deakin offers a complete range of services, from orientation and welcome sessions to academic development services and social activities.

Deakin ensures that all new international students, many of whom have arrived in Australia for the first time, make a smooth transition to the university. Deakin’s welcome programme includes airport pick up, orientation, workshops, social events, study groups and opportunities for students to get involved in campus life.

The university has student mentors available to assist with academic, practical or social matters to help students achieve best results. This is a part of Deakin’s Students Helping Students service. Many student mentors are international students themselves, so they know what it means to be new to Deakin and Australia.

Friendly International Student Advisors (ISAs) are located on each of Deakin’s campuses. These advisers have lived and studied in other countries and have experienced firsthand the cultural and social adjustments involved. ISAs provide general support during studies and can do so in person, online or over the phone. Students can book a private appointment or simply drop-in to the International Student Support Centre on their campus.

Getting involved in university life is a great way for students to meet new people, take on new challenges, and look after health and fitness. Deakin students can join more than 150 clubs and societies across all campuses. The university is home to a diverse range of clubs, including sporting, academic, health, religious and many more. Finding somewhere safe, convenient and affordable to live is important for every student. Deakin has on-campus accommodation and offers support services to help find options that suit student needs.

Deakin offers a range of services to help students stay healthy and safe, and to promote personal wellbeing.

Deakin’s campuses and communities are safe places for students. Even so, security officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at all campuses to ensure the safety of students. Safer Community is a service available for support, advice or information if required. SafeZone is a free phone app for all Deakin students, that connects them directly to the security team.

The Deakin Medical Centre offers nursing and medical advice and healthcare services to students. The university’s medical centres can be found on all its campuses. Consultations with nurses are free and confidential. Campus doctors will bill through the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).

Deakin promotes a diverse, inclusive and supportive environment through a number of services and initiatives. The Disability Resource Centre (DRC) offers students with disabilities individual support to aid them with successful participation in university life and studies.

DeakinTALENT’s Deakin International Student Careers (DISC) program was created specifically to meet the needs of international students with DISC workshops, resources and services to understand the Australian employment market and workplace culture.

Students will learn how to build their experience, write a strong resume, and prepare for their graduate job search in Australia or around the world.

They will also hear from current students and graduates as they share their experiences, challenges and success stories about securing jobs and internships.

DeakinTALENT is ready to work with students from day one of their Deakin degree to help prepare them to pursue the career they want, and to help them find part-time work while they study.

Deakin also brings work experience opportunities to the university through its unique FreelancingHUB. Through the FreelancingHUB, students can undertake an internship as a freelancer working as part of a team to deliver an impactful outcome for a client.
