The Illawarra Grammar School
The Illawarra Grammar School was founded in 1959 through the concerted efforts, vision and energy of the late Bishop Gordon Begbie and a dedicated band of founding parents. The School has come a long way in its short history thanks to the leadership of successive administrations and the dedicated support of many families. International students are welcome here. It takes great care in looking after international students, ensuring that they are safe and secure, and helping them to adjust to the Australian way of life.
While academic standards across the School are high, it offers a broad and diverse range of subjects to cater for the different needs and interests of the children throughout their years of schooling. In the Junior School, TIGS treats Literacy and Numeracy as high priority learning areas, knowing that the skills and concepts developed in the classroom underpin learning across the whole curriculum. It provides a balanced and holistic approach to learning, offering a range of specialist programs namely Physical Education and Swimming, Science and Technology, Human Society and Its Environment, Language Study, Japanese, Library Lesson, Religious Education and Creative and Performing Arts.
TIGS is situated on an impressive site facing both Mt Keira and Mt Kembla and strategically placed to take advantage of the many educational, cultural, sporting and transport facilities associated with the City of Wollongong and relative nearness to Sydney.
